Welcome freethinkers! We are an organization serving Spalding county. We are a sister organization of the Southern Crescent Freethinkers. This meetup page will disappear February 2017 but you don't have to get left behind! Search "Southern Crescent Freethinkers" in meetup or go to www.southerncrescentfreethinkers.org and click "Join", just as you did here.

What is "freethought"?

Freethought is a philosophy that has been around for more than 300 years and is usually equated with atheism or agnosticism but this is not what freethought is about. Freethought isn't necessarily about the subject of God, but any subject presented. It is not the conclusion which differentiates freethought from other philosophies, but the process. What makes a freethinker is not his conclusions but the way in which he has come to them. If one comes to conclusions because of authority, tradition or societal pressures, one is not a freethinker but if one comes to conclusions using their own logic, reason, science and empiricism, this person is a freethinker.

What is the purpose of the "Spalding Freethought Society"?

The organization has been established to bring together freethinkers for those who want to network and build friendships with like-minded people. We encourage questioning the status quo by questioning the authority, dogma or tradition that pushes its hateful, hurtful or unconstitutional ideas on our society. Our actions are in hopes of making our community free of ignorance and to support the concept of dignified human rights.

Who are we?

We attract atheists, agnostics, Humanists, deists, Buddhists, Unitarian Universalists, pantheists, Pagans and skeptics. We are made up of all political parties, genders, sexuality, races and classes of life. We all share a common bond and celebrate each other for overcoming the pressures of society that operate on the fallibility of our minds.

We are glad you are here, there are no pressures or obligations but we encourage you to join us in friendly conversation, join our leadership ranks, support our cause financially or build our numbers with your presence in the chance we feel the desire to petition or picket for a better tomorrow or any or all of the above.
