Warren Groom is organizing this meetup. Here are the details:
Join us for two days of skiing. Day one, ski the sidecountry of Breckenridge (Peak 6, 9 and 10) and day two ski the backcountry to Chicago or Machine Gun Ridge. The inspiration for this trip is to ski Peak 6 at Breckenridge before it becomes part of the Breckenridge ski area in 2013/14 and to explore the sidecountry off of Peak 9 and 10
- March 22, Friday Evening: Meet at the Wooly Mammoth Parking lot at 6:30 and carpool to Breckenridge.
- March 23, Saturday Morning: Take the Gondola up to the base of Peak 7, Independence SuperChair up and ski over to the side gate near the top of Ore Bucket run. Skin up and ski down Peak 6. Afternoon ski the side-country and inbound areas of Breckenridge. I can get 4 lift tickets at $79 each and additional tickets for $104.
- March 24, Sunday: Ski Machine Gun Ridge near Vail Pass or Chicago Ridgenear Leadville. Chicago Ridge INFO:Start off at Buckeye Gulch Trail head, south of Leadville. Skin up as if going to Sangree Hut as you near the tree line break trail to the left and head up to the top of Chicago ridge and ski the trees down to the trail where we skinned up on. See the following link for more info:http://www.hutski.com/hut-routes/sangree/sangree-hut.html.
- March 24, Sunday: Leave Breckenridge around 6 or 7 pm to let the ski traffic dissipate.
My town house has 1 King size bed, 1 Queen size bed, 1 Full size bed, and 2 twin size bed and plenty of room on the floor. A contribution of $10 per person would be appreciated to help cover most of the cleaning fee for my unit. The section of peak 6 we will be skiing is ~30 degree or less. We will review the avalanche danger in the morning before making the decision to ski Peak 6 or not. Avalanche beacon, probe and shovel are strongly recommended if we ski Peak 6. The rest of the outing will be on slopes less than 25 degrees except the inbound portions of Breckenridge.
