Sunday Critique Session

This is a writer's critiquing session. What does that mean?

Those who want to attend should upload a piece of their fiction writing, maybe a short story, a chapter of a novel, or even an outline for their next book. The file needs to be uploaded under the More>Files tab. Ideally, your submission should be about 3,000 words, but please no more than 5,000 words. Because this is a group for writers seeking publication, your work should look professional. A guide is available here:

http://www.shunn.net/format/story.html

Submit works prior to the Wednesday before Sunday.

We will take turns reviewing everyone's submission, taking care to give the author honest, productive feedback. For a reference--pretend that you are the *nicest editor in the world* who is taking the time to explain what is holding a piece back from being published, taking the author's feelings into consideration. Scribophile's rules are a great structure to build from:

http://www.scribophile.com/help/codes/

Casual observers or editors are always welcome.

Before you submit a work I recommend checking it with the "Pass" or "Fail" list on Strange Horizons:

http://www.strangehorizons.com/guidelines/fiction-common.shtml

Hope to see you there!

Cutter's Point is always a bit noisy because they blend a lot of drinks and the sound carries, but it is a nice place (and closer to me is a plus).

Erg! That was the word I was looking for last time for Orion.

Haha, glad I could help. FYI our author, D.M. Hedlund, is confirmed for Sunday. Hooray! I will link her website to our "sponsors" page.

So weird! So I was able to open Rachel's chapter from work, but not from the library (signed in both times). Just as an FYI. Thanks, Rachel for sending it to me - I was able to get it that way, too! Hope everyone's having a great week!

Hi, Rachel. I can't seem to open your chapter. Am I the only one having this problem? I'll try again on another computer and see if that might fix it. Hope everyone's having a good week!

Teri, I had this problem last time. Since Rachel (and myself) uploaded ours as 'view only within group', you have to be logged in. At least that's what happened to me when I couldn't open a file. GL!

Nevermind! I had the same problem except I couldn't open JP's and I was logged in. I'm going to try again tomorrow.

Ristrettos in maple valley Is quite nice. There are several large tables for 6 easy. They have food and beverages galore, wifi, and limited outlets. I don't know how far the location would be for some of you though

I've never been to Cutter's Point, but it looks nice and I was able to reserve their only 8-person table. See you there! (FYI I predicting our author may flake out on us...and I offered a sushi lunch...)

Hey group. Since 3 of us were working with openings last meeting, I wanted to share this link: http://thewritelife.com/the-worst-ways-to-begin-your-novel-advice-from-literary-agents/ Advice from real agents is always nice, right? And I found it helpful. Also, JP, tell me if there's a better outlet for me and my links. I'm not sure where else to post stuff like this (or if you guys even want it?)

Hey, you can start with a breakfast scene, just make sure somebody gets stabbed with a butter knife :)

I'll put that link under the section in our discussion board, thanks for sharing!
