Birds of prey can be admired at a distance and enjoyed at open air displays, but if you’ve ever wondered how great it would be to get really close to these birds, now's your chance. You’ll discover more about them, and experience them up close and personal on this unique birds of prey and falconry weekend. You will be part of a small group spending time in the heart of the beautiful Welsh countryside, learning all about raptors and everything involved in the keeping and flying of these amazing birds. During the weekend you will be guided through the world of falconry, and trained in the handling of birds of prey, getting the chance to fly owls and buzzards from your own gloved hand! You will also gain an insight into the history of falconry, which came over to the British Isles in around 860 AD, and discover why it is still enjoyed around the world today. Over the weekend, the experienced falconers will take you out into the countryside where you will handle and free fly a Harris Hawk. As you ‘walk’ the birds through the beautiful Welsh countryside, you will have the thrill of sharing the grace and mobility of these fabulous creatures as they soar through their natural environment. Your instructor for the weekend is based at Mid Wales Falconry, which was set up by falconry enthusiasts to enable people from all walks of life to experience these fabulous creatures. The centre has a variety of raptors, Hawks, Falcons, Owls and Buzzards all of which have been hand reared and are highly trained. The experience at Mid Wales Falconry is very “hands on” and will involve two days at the centre leaving you with an intimate insight into the incredible world of these fascinating and beautiful birds.
