Free Spice Lecture at The Chalet (by the owners of the Spice House)

Patty and Tom Erd (owners of Spice House in Old Town) will detail the history of the spice trade, revealing fascinating tales of piracy, adventures and wars battled to control it. They will share interesting historical facts and anecdotes about the elusive spices that were coveted by nobility and royalty. This popular program has become an annual tradition at Chalet Nursery. This is a free lecture; no reservations necessary.

I will depart from Buktown and will have 3 spots available in my car if needed.

Shannon said it all, AND I got some great decorating ideas and got some garland. Plus now I know to grind my own spices to have best flavor. No more jumbo jars of ground spices for me! Looking forward to future events! Thanks, Sonia..

What a great event! The Chalet is amazing, so much beautiful home and garden stuff, and the lecture was informative and fun and included a free treat! Thanks for organizing, Sonia!

Hi Eilene. Didn't mean to imply that Skokie doesn't have good restaurants! I don't know the area. I think Saturday is a busy day for all. I have errands to run after lunch so I thought a quick bite would be best. More spice stores visits will follow soon in our agenda. I mentioned Thai because it showcases a lot of flavors/spices as opposed to regular chain restaurants fare. Let's appraise what everyone's taste buds dictate after the lecture (assuming everyone actually has time for lunch) ;)

We'll figure it out together. I'm all for keeping driving at a minimum!

A quick bite afterward sounds great, and I have been craving Thai. But yes, got a lot to get done that day. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

    Hello.
I was thinking it might be fun to get a quick bite after the lecture. Choices are limited in Skokie but there is a Thai place called "Beyond Thai" nearby if anyone is interested in having lunch afterwards!

      Sonia:
This is across the street from Edens Plaza and just a short ride north of Old Orchard...there are dozens of restaurants in area and a nice new food court in Old Orchard as well....lunch close to Chalet would be easy OR if we head a bit southeast into northwest Evanston, can visit the Spice House and have lunch down the block from there.
