Split the Bottle

Split the Bottle is for D.C. area wine lovers of all levels of sophistication, from Franzia aficionados to Cabernet collectors.  We primarily meet up to split bottles of wine over appetizers and meals at local restaurants.

We split the bottle because:

  1. By sharing the bottle we also share the experience of drinking a particular wine.  This gives everyone the opportunity to practice describing what they're tasting.  For many, this is the most intimidating aspect of wine snobbery, so some may be more comfortable sipping and listening to what others say.  Personally, I never pass on an opportunity to make an off-color metaphor, and I encourage anyone with an opinion of a wine to voice it.
  2. By sharing the bottle we also share the cost of the wine, which is just plain economical.
  3. By sharing the bottle we have immediate conversational common ground, making it easier to get to know everyone else at the table.
