    Cleveland Metroparks newest Trail...

The new, natural surface Royalview Trail will offer beginners and experienced mountain bike riders over 8 miles of trails through the beautiful woodlands and offer amazing views of Royalview Creek. Beginners will find the trail smooth and easy to maneuver, with easy access for short or long rides. More experienced riders will enjoy the flowing single track up and down the ravines.

This is a beginner ride with no lancing. No one will be left in the dust. Riders must be comfortable with their bikes with decent balance. Helmets recommended. Light might be a good idea as well.. This is for the novice mountain biker or the rider that just wants to ride without going balls to the wall.

We hope we can make this weekly ride grow.

We will start with the yellow trail, then to the red, , down back the trail to the cars.

I will be riding in the back . New people welcome! Come out! It will be tougher at first...but well worth it..

I talked to the rangers office and the royalview trail is closed due to rain from last week. It won't be open wednesday unfortunately.

I read the trails don't open till June 7th or it was June 9th. It's supposed to rain today n a thunderstorm this evening. I like about 10-15 "walking" minutes from it. I don't think it will be a good idea to still go. PS I am on their FB page too David, that's where I read about when the trails are opening. But I went back to confirm the day n couldn't find it. But it's there somewhere.

After Ashafox posted her reply, I went looking for the Metroparks page that shows Royalview's status: http://www.clevelandm...

I just posted a question to the Cleveland Area Mountain Bike Assoc (CAMBA) Facebook page, asking what the conditions out at Royalview might be. From their page I don't see any indications anyone has been on any of the local trails, however, so I doubt very much if Royalview (or any other local trail) is open yet.

sorry about that ... i was just commenting saying the street was closed ... so even if the trail was open, you couldn't get to it.

I wasn't referring to the trail being closed due to the recent flooding. Royalview (and most of the other trails around Cleveland) actually close during the spring because riding on the muddy trails destroys them. There's a sign at the trailhead by the parking area. It's not hugely conspicuous...I'm embarassed to say I rode right past without seeing it last month. It hadn't rained in quite a while so I thought the trail would be in good shape, but there were lots of parts which were completely impassable without getting off and walking. Luckily for me, no rangers were about when I got back to my car, as it is a ticketable offense. I felt like a real douchebag when someone pointed it out. Now I know...

Yes, the street was blocked off (closed) yesterday evening when I went for a walk on the other side of Royalton n Valley Parkway. The flood damaged the road (I'm guessing it's from the flood) ... the blacktop was slightly ripped up.

Last I looked this trail was still closed. That was several weeks ago, but BEFORE all the rain we've had. I can't imagine it'll be in any shape for a ride by next Wednesday, I'm afraid.

I got a new mt. bike last summer and rode it once. Don't think I am shifting the gears correctly. Would like to give it another try. No problem with balance, just getting the right gear. What do you think?
