Pet Bed Workshop

Show your favorite furry friend some love with a custom bed! Local design professional Julia Hash of JSH Designs leads this 3.5-hour workshop to whip up a comfy pet bed with a removable cover. (Grace gives the bed two paws up!)

Participants will construct their own pet bed to learn the basics of making a boxed cushion, covering and applying welt (piping), inserting a zipper, and pattern matching. Leave with a gift for your pet and the skills to make any type of boxed cushion your heart desires in the future!

For our sample bed, we loved the classic look of this greyhound toile by Jane Walker, available in 22 color ways on Spoonflower's marketplace!

While Julia will be sharing tips and tricks of the trade for this project, this workshop is recommended for participants with intermediate sewing skills. It will be helpful to have experience inserting zippers and cutting bias strips for welt.

Please find the complete supply list for this class here.

*Please note that piping and zippers can be purchased from Julia during class for $4.00! Just be sure to bring cash or a check!

To better manage attendance to this instructor-led class, there will be a $5 deposit required to RSVP to this class. This deposit will be refunded to all present attendees as a $5 Spoondollar credit to be applied to any Spoonflower purchase of fabric, wallpaper, decals or gift wrap. This refund will appear in Spoonflower accounts on Friday, July 19 for all present attendees. You'll need a Spoonflower account to receive your Spoondollar credit. You can sign up for an account here (it's free!), and be sure to include the email address associated with your Spoonflower account when you RSVP.

If you RSVP yes and cannot make the class, please change your RSVP status to "No" by Monday, July 15 at 6pm for a full refund to your PayPal account. If you do not change your RSVP by this time and do not attend class, your deposit will not be refunded. Any deposits that are not refunded will be put toward future events and workshops in the Greenhouse.

Feel free to email with any questions about this class, and we hope to see you here!

This workshop was great! The instructor Julia was very helpful and spent time with every student. She shared great insider tips you just can't get by reading a tutorial post!

The meetup was wonderful! I am very impressed with the facilities and what they do. Our instructor was very knowledgeable and gave some very good hints to help in the future. I will for sure sign up for another class.

Are all the SF sewing machines already spoken for? If they are, no problem...but if not, I think I'll give "Betsy" a pass for tonight. ;-)

Actually, no Spoonflower machines are spoken for! Feel free to use one of ours tonight, Lorrell!

Thank you ever so! I've been canning today and that will be one less thing I have to figure out before I go. :-)

Hi, April. It looks like someone has jumped in there already. This evening at 6pm is the deadline to change your RSVP and still receive a refund, so keep an eye out! If you aren't able to make it to this one, we hope to offer this class again since it's been so popular!

Is there a waitlist for this class?? I would love to be able to come if someone can't make it?

    July 3, 2013

    • Spoonflower E.

Hi, April! For classes that require a deposit, there is no waiting list. However, attendees can still drop with a deposit refund until Monday, July 15, so be sure to check in to see if anyone changes their RSVP status! Thanks so much for checking!

Question: I don't have any pets, would it be okay if I scaled this project down and made throw/toss pillows? At least I'd be able to use those :)

    July 1, 2013

    • Spoonflower E.

Hi, Margaux! You can size this project however you like. This construction technique gives you more of a cushion than a pillow, though. Maybe you have a chair or window seat that could use updating? If you'd rather make a pillow, we will be posting a class for shams very soon!

Hope you're all staying dry out there! Just a quick update to the supply list-- the fabric yardage given is based on a 54" wide fabric. If your fabric of choice is a bit narrower, be sure to buy extra!
