Freethought is a philosophical viewpoint that holds that opinions should be formed on the basis of science, logic, and reason, and should not be influenced by authority, tradition, or any dogma.
What are the Springfield Freethinkers?
We are a social organization building a supportive community of non-believers and skeptics in a region that is not always conducive to freethought. To help develop the community, we offer a wide variety of events to cater to freethinkers of all tastes. Feel free to explore them all.
Regularly scheduled group events are (please note, all of our events are open. You do not have to be a member to attend anything, though we do hope you will choose to join as an official member):
Monthly Meeting-- Our official membership meetingwhere we discuss group business, conduct votes and have guided group discussion or a guest speaker. If you have an idea for the group or want a solid intellectual discussion, this is for you. The meetingsalternate between the 3rd and 4th Thursdays of the month. The location alternates between the Library Station and the Library Center from 6:15-9.
