What is a Freethinker?

Freethought is a philosophical viewpoint that holds that opinions should be formed on the basis of science, logic, and reason, and should not be influenced by authority, tradition, or any dogma.

What is this group about?

First and foremost the goals of this group are social. We want to build a warm, supportive community of non-believers and skeptics.  This group is for people who want to build solid, real-life friendships in a region that is not always conducive to freethought.  We have a wide variety of events to cater to freethinkers of all tastes. Don’t worry about trying to attend them all.

Our mission is one centered on building friendships, so if you are looking for something more protest/activist driven, then check out our colleagues at the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Monthly Meeting
This is our “official” meetup where we discuss group business, conduct votes and have group discussion.  If you have an idea for the group, or want a solid intellectual discussion, this is for you.
Currently we've been holding these at the public libraries throughout town, followed by coffee-fueled talk at Ziggies or IHOP. This occurs on the 3rd Thursday of the month.  6pm-9pm at the library.

Skeptics in the Pub
At this series of events we have guest speakers, and discussion usually centers on science, the paranormal and pseudoscience.  Discussion is not coordinated for this meetup, just mingle and have a cold one!

This event is held at Farmer’s Gastropub on the 1st Tuesday of the month. Goes from 6pm to closing time.

Freethinker’s Game Day
An all-day party with board games, video games and the like.  Bring food and drinks and if you stay till the end, help with clean up is appreciated.  A great meetup for the whole family.

Usually goes from 4pm-12am at John-Henry’s house.

Community Volunteering
In order to give back to the community we occasionally will help with the fundraising drives for PBS and conduct street clean-up for the city of Springfield.  We are looking for more ways to help.

Other Social Events
We have a number of other events that we do less frequently such as movie nights, holiday events, picnics, and trips to the shooting range.
