I'm coming to you with an announcement and a request...
The announcement- after organizing this meetup group for over four years I'm ready to step down. I have had such a great time with this group over the years and have met many people that I am very close to in this group! Springfield Circle of Friends Meetup group has been invaluable to me. However, I no longer have the time or attention for organizing the group. The lack of events over the past year, compared to prior years, can attest to this. This spring I took a plunge back into school full time with 13 hours this semester, on top of working to keep my kids fed healthy, and I am more than thrilled to tell all of my friends here that I became engaged to marry Ellie this last February. This year is going to be busy and full for me with moving next month, planning our wedding, getting married in August, and I will be continuing classes next fall, also. The biggest reason for my stepping down is obviously that I'm getting married and will be focusing on my family!
I'd like to talk about where this puts the group. It's not going away. I hope to see it grow even bigger! When I took over the group 4 years ago the Springfield Circle of Friends had just over 100 members. We've grown to well over 600 members in that time. And, we've had some really awesome gatherings. It's not going away. What we need now, though, is a focus on finding some of you to step up and become organizers. Eventually I want one person to be the main organizer with a number of co-organizers. But, for now I would love to have a number of people step up to the co-organizer spot and get this group rockin' again! I want the group to decide who will take over when I pass the torch. We'll do it very democratically if possible.
If you want to try to organize or host a gathering, let me know. If you want to be a co-organizer, let me know. I'm very open to helping anyone this year put some events together. I'll be around to answer questions and to train anyone who steps up to learn how to use the website for putting Meetups on.
