Pub Goers - Christmas Market and Lower Red Lion

Ho, ho ho, it's time for a Yuletide themed Pub Goers!

In a St Albans First there will be a Bavarian Christmas Market situated amongst the glorious 11th-century St Albans Cathedral, in the Vintry Gardens. Fifty five stalls will boast to an array of goods, from high-quality food and drink, such as traditional Bratwurst sausages, mulled wine and decorated gingerbread men, to wooden toys, Christmas decorations, stocking-fillers, hand-made clothes and gifts. Gotta be done hasn't it!

Full details of the Christmas market are here: http://www.semperey.com/st-albans-to-welcome-the-first-bavarian-christmas-market/

The plan is to kick off early and hand around the market for a while. Then off to the Lower Red Lion for a well earned sit down (maybe :) and drink (well, more drink :)

The general meeting point will be "The Three Brewers" stall. We like them, they gave me free tasters :) It situated on the east side of the market (stall 17 possibly), and looks like this:

After the market (well at 6.30) we shall move on to the very lovely Lower Red Lion in Fishpool Street towards St Michael's village (http://www.thelowerredlion.co.uk/). It's about 5 min walk from  the Xmas market. And has a large range of beers, a couple of real ciders and a good range of everything else, including some festival Mulled Wine I believe.

So, the plan is (though turn up when & wherever you want):

• 4.30: Kick off at Xmas market, meeting point TBD. People can either stay at the meeting point or wander off (I know I will). There's an option to rendezvous at meeting point 5.00, 5.30 & 6.00 (I promise to be back there at those times but only for a guaranteed 5 mins). You can also phone/text me on [masked]

• 6.15: Off we go to the Lower Red Lion (or join us later if you want)

Given that's quite early, we may go to another pub after, say, 9.00. I'll decide ad hoc on the night (so, call/text me if joining after 9.00)

Here's a location and route map: http://goo.gl/maps/3FjDe
(in fact, we can do a more direct route around the cathedral but I haven't managed to beat Google maps into submission yet. You get the idea)

The event runs from 4.30pm but feel free to turn up later if that suits (though please let me know)

I'll be wearing an easily identifiable T-Shirt. Well, actually I expect it'll be chilly at the market so look for this (not so christmas-y) sweatshirt and a leather jacket (err...spin 90 degrees):

Once in the Lower Red, I'll switch to this far more festive mode:

Any problems finding us in the market/pub, phone/text me on[masked]

Beery Xmas!

Pete

    Hi Pete
I appreciate it may not be the greatest concern for the pub goers! but any suggestions re eating out somewhere along the way, I wouldn't mind grabbing something at a 'sit down place' at some stage...any of the pubs serve food? Anyone feel the same?

I'm pretty certain there's food stalls/crepes etc in the market, and, i do think the Lower Red serves food...

    I've added identifiable sweatshirt/t-shirt details.
I'll check out market layout on friday but for now assume the meeting point will be "The French Mulled Wine Company", wherever that turns out to be.

Pete where should I park my car I know that Fishpool street is a yellow line area and I don't want to be walking on own my own back to a lonely car park, hope you can help thanks Collette.

      Hmmm........Tricky
Lower Red has it's own car park but it's quite small. I wouldn't count on that. Apart from that the best car park (for Abbey too) is probably London Road (see Phil's Peahen details for exact info - http://www.meetup.com...)
      Hope that helps
