St Kilda Social was created with the aim of providing activities in and around the St Kilda area for people who live in or like visiting the area.
Who can join?
Anybody can join St Kilda Social. You don't need to live in the area you just need to know that most of the events will be in the St Kilda area. There's no age range or limit and it's a real mix at the moment.
What's important is that all members are friendly, sociable and positive people who are inclusive and show respect to others.
This is not a 'singles' group although I'm sure many people will be single. Couples and people with partners are welcome to attend.
All members - please take the time to be welcoming to new members. It is important that new members feel comfortable and want to come back. We were all newbies once!!
Who organises events?
At the moment it is me (Wendy) and a few others who organise outings.
I hope that others will step up and contribute to the organising of events so that there is more to offer everybody.
Personally, I enjoy bars and pubs, eating out, seeing live music, etc so this is what I will probably organise. This is not a commercial venture for me so please don't complain if I don't do things exactly to your liking. When you pay me to organise your social life then I will! :-) Like many of you, I have a busy full-time job, family commitments and friends as well so I can only do so much.
If there is something in particular you'd like to do have a go at organising an event. Once in a while is easy!
If a meetup has a limited number of places, it is expected that you will only RSVP 'yes' if you can actually attend and will change your RSVP to 'no' if you are unable to attend. Pretty basic. People who regularly book and don't turn up will be removed from the group.
I have asked members to pay a $1 donation at each event. This money is used to cover the cost to have the meetup page (the one you're looking at, which is $72.00 every six months) and also the cost of internet, phone calls and text messages made to research, organise events, answer questions & respond to emails and more. I don't think one dollar is a lot to pay and if having to pay offends you I'd politely suggest you don't join.
I don't intend to profit from this (and doubt there's any danger of that).
Drop me (Wendy) an email if you have any questions.
