18XX Train Games

Der Spielenzentrum (map)

NOTE THE NEW DATE FOR THIS MEETUP

Since I've set up the historical theme days starting in November, I'd like to schedule an 18XX-specific theme day for early this month (mainly since I'm jonesin' to play again!).

The games I have on my 18XX shelf include 18AL (x2), 18GA, 1870, 1848 Australia, 1835, and 1856. I might also have a home-made copy of 1830, 1886, or 18EU done by then, but we'll see.

Many 18XX games can take 5-6 hours to complete, but some are much shorter and can be completed in 2-3 hours. Both types will be available, and we'll have a couple of tables available. These games can comfortably handle 3-5 players each, and some can include up to 7 players. So, if you enjoy thought-provoking stratgey games with a heavy dose of economics, stock markets, and/or you just like trains, you need to make a point of coming!

See you there!

I think we're looking at 2 concurrent 3-4 player games (chosen from 1870, 1856, 1835, 1848) running from 11am to 5pm, then a dinner break followed by a game (or 2) of 18AL or 18GA (or maybe 1829 Mainline--is that a sort or long game?) for those who just can't get enough and want to cap off the day with a shorter game. I figure we might have 3-4 interested in the after dinner session.

Had an absolute blast playing Keith's copy of 1830! We didn't quite bust the bank withing our time limit (we played until 5:15), but when the dust settled the PRR partnership of Eamon and Chris S. won the day, and they finished 1-2 in the overall standings, followed by Chris F., Rod, Steve, then newcomer Keith (who still acquitted himself well for his first 18xx game).

Thanks, Chris, for showing a newbie how to play this bad boy. It was a friendly game, but I can see how much more cut-throat it could be. Hope to play this more in the future. It was worth punching my 1830's copy!
