We can get that kind of thing unblocked for next year, but I'm not sure it's a good idea. This is more about making games than playing them!

Maybe Peter or someone else could start a LAN party meet up ;)

Hey. I was unable to find the guy about volunteering for the kid's game jam. I'd like to help if I can and if I'm available that day. Can you point me in the right direction if they still need volunteers?

    January 26

    • Wes E.

http://www.ylc-stl.or... Here's the page, and there's an email address at the bottom that talks about volunteering. Thank you so much!

Won't be here quite as early as initially intended. Forgot to get stuff together last night, and didn't wake up early enough this morning to do it, so I'll probably be getting here closer to the normal time, so I can't help set up. Sorry guys. I can try to hurry if you need more help, just let me know.

HEY GUYS! Unity has made a publicly available way for anyone to get another 30 day pro trial, just for the global game jam. As long as you have an account, you can go here to get a key: https://unity3d.com/gamejams/GGJ15

The pluses include real time lighting, occlusion culling, and more, so if you only use free, it can be a great help for the game jam. (it does put "trial version" in the bottom right of the screen though)

(Perhaps this could be put on sheets with info, like the wifi info page or something)

I am soooooo bringing my Oculus Rift DK2. I want to see what we can do with it. :D Perhaps a super scary game? (O-o I seem to like the dark environments.)

The volvo thing was an online thing. They may still be doing it. I had to go through like 5 email addresses for it to say I got it. http://www.reddit.com...

Hi I am an artist. I love doing concept design. I'm not so familiar with the graphic side but I am learning.

Game Jams are a fun way to dive in and figure things out, experiment, and/or learn tips from others. Just be honest and realistic about your skills and experience with yourself and your team and you'll do great!

@Jason Charney: Godot Engine just released the official 1.0 release. Not only is if free and open source, but it also has a linux, mac, and windows editor, and can build to ios, android, windows, etc. Their site seems to be a little slow at the moment, but be a little patient, it is free, so they probably don't have the best servers in the world. Might be a good alternative to unity. It's scripting language is also based on python, so should be right up your alley there as well. Personally, I'm going to look into it. (A lot of my reason for not using linux is cause unity's editor doesn't work on it. Very little of what I do on the day to day besides requires windows.) I haven't tried it yet, but I will soon enough. Anyway, link: http://www.godotengin...

Nothing a little tinkering under the his can't fix (assuming the source code is available.) But thanks for the lead, Randy.

We have 45 people signed up here now, but only 31 on the Global Game Jam site. You gotta sign up there too! Thanks peeps!

I am completely new to game development. I am not a programer or artist. I'm an idea person. I help with game structure/mechanics, story line, and project management.

Knowing this about me, would you say there's a place for me at the Game Jam?

    December 14

    • Philip

There is most certainly a place for you at the Game Jam. Every year there are many people with little to no experience with game development who participate. The important thing is to have a desire to participate and a willingness to help out in whatever capacity you can. For most projects, design, art, writing, and sound effects can be done at a beginners and still produce a nice finished product. The important thing is to set your expectations correctly. You will not be making Quake in one weekend.

Additionally, you can even make board / card games at the event as well.

I would suggest looking at what was produced in previous Game Jams to help set your expectations properly.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
