October Book Club Meeting

Hi Members,

Our book for October is "Interpreter of Maladies" by Jhumpa Lahiri.  This is our first selection that is a collection of short stories.

A short description follows:

Navigating between the Indian traditions they've inherited and the baffling new world, the characters in Jhumpa Lahiri's elegant, touching stories seek love beyond the barriers of culture and generations. In "A Temporary Matter," published in The New Yorker, a young Indian-American couple faces the heartbreak of a stillborn birth while their Boston neighborhood copes with a nightly blackout. In the title story, an interpreter guides an American family through the India of their ancestors and hears an astonishing confession. Lahiri writes with deft cultural insight reminiscent of Anita Desai and a nuanced depth that recalls Mavis Gallant. She is an important and powerful new voice.

I'm excited to get started!

I rsvp'd yes to this one, but I'm thinking I'm going to stay in after all, for no other reason than that I'm completely lame. I'll see you all next month!

This one wasn't available in the St. Paul or Dakota County libraries, but I got one, and two more available in the Carver County library system. Like we talked about last week, gotta hit ALL the libraries! :)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
