As discussion leader, I went to this gathering with hopes of being enlightened by others' perspecitves into Gorky's "Chelkash", and I was not disappointed. Brilliant! Thanks to all the "Shared Inquiry" St Paul GBDB active participants. Thank you.

What an awesome reading. I need to finish that last 5 pages that I could not squeeze in time before getting to our discussion and then I have to go back and read the whole thing again. What a well written story worth reading again!!!

Tomorrow's St Paul Great Books Discussion Group will focus on our text's Unit VI. Our "Shared Inquiry" into our text's Unit VI includes: "Getting Into a Story”, and “Chelkash” a short story by Maxim Gorky.

Our always lively and civil discussion is as always helped by remembering our “Shared Inquiry Handbook” Guidelines for discussion.

The short "Getting Into a Story” includes these inspiring insights:
"A story...invites us to step outside ourselves...to see what the world looks like from another angle of vision...We can suspend judgment in favor of understanding. Reading a story is a way to participate, without risk, in another world..."

"Then we cease to be aware of the effort we are expending as we read. Our curiosity carries us through the story, which we read with passion and understanding".

Maxim Gorky's short story "Chelkash" certainly fulfills the above mentioned possibilities and promises of greater understanding through reading, and discussing, a story.

    See you tomorrow!

I am sorry to change my RSVP to "no". It turns out that I've had a couple of interruptions in my daily life that will prevent me from reading ch. 6 in time. I will look for the July notice of the chapter to be discussed. I hope to meet you then.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
