Bald Eagles and Breakfast

Bald Eagles and Breakfast

Are you off for President's day with nothing planned???

The eagles are on their nest just outside Anclote River Park. I thought others might have Presidents Day off as well so I wanted to post a last minute event to photograph the Bald Eagles and their chicks on the nest.

Sunrise is at 7:06 AM on Monday so I plan on getting there around 6:45 to the park. According to the weather, we should have clear and sunny skies on Monday morning but we know how accurate the weather people can be so we'll keep an eye on things just to make sure.

Parking - You have to park inside of Anclote River Park. They charge a $2 parking fee. There's a do it yourself parking pay station located inside the park as you're driving around the main loop. It's a small park and the pay station is located on the right hand side of the road.

Once you pay, drive back to the front towards the entrance and park in the dirt lot closest to the road, that's where we will meet. We'll walk down Ballie's Bluff Rd (about an 1/8th of mile) to photography the eagles.

The nest is located farily close to the road so an average telephoto lens will work. Of course, the bigger the lens, the closer your shots will be so bring what ever you'd like. A 200 or 300 MM lens works well.

I also suggest bringing a camp chair to sit in as the Eagle's can take their time flying in and out of the nest. Bring a jacket and hat in case it's a bit chilly and some snacks or drinks for yourself.

After we're done photographing the eagles, we can walk the beach line in Anclote park as there is a lot of shore birds to photograph.

Once we're done photographing for the morning we can visit a local favorite diner for some breakfast/lunch depending on what time we finish.

If you have any questions about location of the park, where to park, etc... let me know.

If you arrive late, park in the area noted above, walk out of the park and head to your left when leaving the park. You'll see us on the side of the road on the grass snapping away.

Here's a shot of these eagles I took on a past trip to this location

Great people, great conversations, but could have used a few more eagles!

I may be late, and if so, will I meet the group going left or right after parking ? Looking forward. Thanks

It would be a left leaving the park/parking lot...headed north. We'll be fairly close to the park on the grass next to the road. Should be very easy to spot.
