The Shamrock Club Ride (St. Patrick's Day)

  • This location is shown only to members

WHAT: St. Patrick's Day falls on a Monday this year, so we will celebrate a day early!. We will start and end at 300 Suns, and perhaps enjoy a post ride Pint.

ROUTE: 46 mile route heading East into the rolling emerald coloured farmlands of Colorado; ok, I know it's a stretch, but it's as close to the Irish Landscape as it gets around here :). We will ride through Platteville, re-fuel if needed, (if anything is open), then head south past "Fort Vasque", then West back to 300 Suns. Map can be viewed HERE

RIDE INFO: Club rides will have 2 or 3 groups. We ride as a close group, two abreast only when it is safe to do so. The Club rides are "NO DROP", we will re-group at the top of hills, and at any turns where necessary.

GROUP Abici: This group will be at a faster pace                                                    (17 to 19mph average).

GROUP Basso: This group will be at a medium/fast pace                                           (15 to 17mph average).

GROUP Cinelli: This group will be at a medium pace                                                 (13 to 15mph average).

WHO: This is a road bike ride for people who have experience riding on the road with traffic. Please only sign up if you are confident you can complete the above described ride/route (distance, pace etc).

RIDE NOTES: Rides roll out no more than 5 minutes after advertised start time, please arrive early & be ready to roll on time.

- Come prepared for mechanical breakdowns (bring spare tube, patch kit, tire levers, multi-tool).

- Be sure to bring enough water for the length of the ride, especially with warmer weather ahead of us. As a general rule, one bottle of water is good for 1 hour of riding (8oz per 20 mins of ride time).

DISCLAIMER: We try to ensure the safest cycling experience on all of our rides, but cycling does come with some risk. Our ride leaders are all volunteers, not professional guides. Each member accepts responsibility for their own conduct and safety (including the safety of your bicycle and any other equipment) during club rides. You take part in club rides entirely at your own risk.

My road bike is out of commission at the moment....any objections to me using my TT bike as long as I stay out of my bars?

    March 15, 2014

    • Joe T.

But you have to know the rule: if you're riding a TT bike, you have to pull the peloton!

She can't make it. She thought it started at 9, so it just makes it a bit tight for her next appointment.

Well folks, looks like we certainly picked the right day this weekend to ride!. This nasty wind and coolness should be out of here by evening.
Tomorrow should be Sunny with a light breeze, it will be cooler starting out, temp. range 38-55F during ride.
Since Pati is out of town, we will probably have an 'A' group, and one main "B" type group, see you all tomorrow!.

Hi Virginia, I will pace with you. This is a base training day for me. I will probably want to ride the entire length, but I have to keep my intensity at a set level to maximize my overall training. I look forward to meeting and riding with everyone! Here's hoping for sunny skies and no wind! (unless it is always at my tail pushing me!)

You'll all do great. I will be out of town - sorry i won't get to meet you this week. Tailwinds!

Thank you Pamela! So far the forecast shows 60 degree weather! Not sure about the wind factor, but keeping my fingers crossed!

Is anyone adding the loops? My coach wants me to ride for 2 and a half hours this weekend and I am averaging 15 miles per hour, so probably need to do at least 37 miles. I have never been on a group ride before and am not familiar with the area, so reluctant to go it on my own.

Hi Virginia. You may be getting mixed up with our ride and Buzz's 25 mile ride on the "Longmont Area Beginning...." Meetup. Our route is fairly gentle too though, maximum grade maybe 3.5% as we climb up CR1 at the very start. 46 miles will take approx. 3 hrs to ride (more if you include stops), there are amenities in Platteville if anyone needs re-fueling. Pati's pace will be around 15mph, perhaps a little under, she can fill you in with the C group Pace, and if we get a big group we will likely have a B group also!.

I originally signed up for both rides, not realizing that they were both on Sunday.

I really want to join everyone, but I am uncertain about being able to complete the mikes. The most I have done is 34 miles, averaging 15.5 mikes per hour. Is this a there and back loop that I could turn around if I cannot complete?

    March 10, 2014

    • Nick M.

There are not too many paved roads in the easterly direction we are traveling, which limits any "Short Cut" options. You could always go as far as you can manage, and turn around and re-trace your steps, or I think there might be one possible road that would cut the route short. We can certainly give you a map.
