The Riverfront Trail is an eleven-mile asphalt multi-use trail that runs along the Mississippi River between Laclede's Landing area north to the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge. The trail provides an opportunity for users to experience historic and industrial sections of St. Louis as well as natural river scenery. Major attractions along the trail include, the Laclede Power Center, Reflections on a River floodwall art mural, Native Plant Nursery, Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing Underground Railroad Site (the first nationally designated Underground Railroad Site in the state of Missouri), North Riverfront Park and the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge. The AmeriCorps Trail Rangers patrol the trail and assist with projects at the Native Plant Nursery and Meachum Site.
Depending who comes out we may break into small groups to ride at your level/speed. All levels from beginner to advanced are welcome. Since this route just goes out and back, you can go as far and as fast as you want and still finish the same time as the rest of the group. We usually take a break at the Chain of Rocks bridge before coming back. Try to get back to the parking garage by 8 PM so we can all go to dinner together at the Morton Street Brewery. The stronger riders will usually go 23+ miles at around 17 mph.
This ride is sponsored by Trailnet which will offer Support and Gear (SAG). If you join Trailnet and you have a physical, mechanical, or emotional breakdown, they will pick you up. They will also give you a coupon so that parking is only $1. Joining also helps to support the entire cycling community in the city. For more information please refer to the Trailnet site.
