Maintenance

Why not come out and tailgate with the OTA as we take on a section of the OT on Super Bowl Sunday. Information about where we will meet up will posted after 1/1/14. Promise it will be AWESOME!!!!! A lot of you have talked about coming out and doing trail maintenance on some of the smaller events that the OTA schedules. Well, here is your chance. This particular event doesn't have much detail yet but they are usually a lot of fun. This event does not incl. camping but will probably have some offer of camping once they determine where we are going. Remember you have to register still on the OTA sight as well. www.ozarktrail.com

UPDATED INFORMATION From Kathie Brennan at OTA

OH MY!!!! I hope everyone is ready for a SUPER day on the trail doing maintenance!!  We will be meeting at the Russell Mtn. trail head on CC off of Hwy 21 that goes up to Taum Sauk Mtn. at 8:45 a.m. and from there we will be doing maintenance on two sections of the Ozark Trail. Even though the trail is open, these 2 sections need just a bit more TLC.  My fingers are crossed for that day hoping that Mother Nature smiles upon us and we can get some well-deserved maintenance done

Here are a few reminders, as well as some information.

Directions:  We will meet at Russell Mtn. trail head which is pretty easy to get to.  If you click on the link http://ozarktrail.com/planner/directions.php?id=148 you can get directions from your own address to the trail head on CC(insert the .  I have also asked to have the directions added to the sign up page so you can check back on the web site.  If after reading the information on the page, you still need help, please let me know.

Accommodations:  Camping is available at Taum Sauk State Park or you could just camp along the Ozark Trails if the weather holds the woods are pretty doable for hammocks and tents. I am staying at the OTA house in Potosi Saturday night and anyone is welcome to stay that evening also.  Just e-mail if you are coming so we can make arrangements.  I plan on driving down in the morning Sunday with equipment so if you want to carpool with me from Potosi that is great.

What to bring?  Dress for the weather; layers are best along with rain gear, bring a lunch/snacks along with water, work gloves, sturdy boots(please no tennis shoes), and whatever else you need.  Each of us will probably be carrying a hand tool and that means you will probably want to carry your lunch, water, etc. in a day pack.  If you have a good set of loppers bring them along.  Don’t forget to bring your OTA waiver forms found on at this link. http://ozarktrail.com/events.php  I will have extra forms if you do forget them.

What is provided?  One of the best things about outings with the OTA is that you usually get a pretty decent meal at the end of the day.  Depending on final numbers will determine our dinner arrangements.

What will we be doing:  We will be splitting into two groups at the trail head and will need to place vehicles at the ending points to get back to our vehicles at the trail head.  One group will head to Taum Sauk Mtn. and the other will head to Hwy 21 TH.  We will be leaf blowing, lopping and signing as well as sawing. If you are able to carry a leaf blower or help with swamping please let me know.  I do need sawyers for both sections so if you can, let me know and what equipment needs you would have.

Sooooo…IF YOU are NOT coming please let me know ASAP because of food and tool needs.  I am SOOOOOO looking forward to being out on Sunday as we spend an AWESOME day doing what we love…taking care of the Ozark Trail.

See you soon and don’t hesitate to contact me….kathie
