Living By The Letter
This is NOT a beginners hike!
Please sign up only if you intend to finish the complete route!
This will be a very tough hike; 15.5 mile, 6 hours, 3,711 ft total elevation gain, that includes many long (over 100 steps) staircases, steep hills and we go at a fast pace!
Wearing ASU maroon and gold, Cardinals red, and of course, American colors or flags is encouraged!! Even fans of that douchebag school in Tucson are welcomed.
This stairhike is NOT a political statement. Please respect that. You will be asked to leave the hike, if you fail to comply.
This stairhike is a way to recognize Pat Tillman's courage, honor, and sacrifice.
Hard to believe it will be 10 years since Pat Tillman's death.
April 22, 2004- Pat Tillman, who gave up his NFL career to join the Army Rangers, was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan. Initially, the Bush Administration lied to the American people by saying Tillman was killed in an enemy ambush.
Most people may remember Tillman wearing #40 while playing for the Arizona Cardinals. But, I remember Tillman wearing #42 and playing for Arizona St.. So please join me as we tackle 42 staircases in Echo Park and Silver Lake.
The reason this stairhike starts at 2pm is that I'm doing Pat's Shadow Run that morning and want to make sure I have enough time to get to Echo Park.
I also want people to remember Marie Tillman, Pat's wife and now President of the Pat Tillman Foundation!
This hike is not affiliated with the Pat Tillman Foundation, which raises money for Veterans and their spouses. The hike is named after him to honor his great courage, sacrifice, and to bring more awareness to his heroic actions and the cover up that followed!

Time: Please arrive at Chango by 2pm. Walk will start promptly at 2:15pm.
Parking: There is free street parking on Echo Park Ave. and other streets near Chango.
Pace- Please be honest about your conditioning level!
Fast, workout pace. This walk isn't meant for pictures or as a social stroll. Of course you can take pictures but you need to keep up with the group.
There will be 2 breaks along the route. Otherwise we will not have any other rest breaks. We do keep a good pace.
You are responsible for keeping up with the pace of the group.
If you are unable to keep up with the group, you are on your own to get back to the starting point.
Print out the map of the route.
About 15.5 miles. Walk will take about 6 hrs.
We will pass Echo Park Ave. a few times during this route. So there are some chances to bailout early.

If you're an obnoxious loudmouth or a resident genius-somebody who thinks they know it all and has to tell everybody, please do not sign up. Just leave the group. I'm really tired of dealing with these types of personalities on these walks.
All walks should be treated like a workout!
No crashers- Please sign up for this event. Please do not just show up.
RSVP limits are set, because I don't want a huge group on these walks. So, if you RSVP only for yourself, don't bring a guest.
Please keep your RSVP updated and current. Repeated No Shows may lead to members being removed from the group.
There usually are no restrooms along these walks. Restrooms are usually only available at the starting point of the walks.
Always bring plenty of water.
Always wear running/tennis shoes. Open toed shoes are not a good idea for these stairs walks.
