It's going to be in the high 80's, when this walk starts. Bring plenty of water. There will be a place to get water and restrooms at the Observatory but that's almost at the end of the walk.
Ready for the first Full Moon walk of 2014? This time we'll go to Griffith Park and the Observatory!
Please wear light colored clothing and bring a flashlight!!
We will go up a dirt trail to the Observatory. Running shoes are fine for this trail.
Since it is a full moon, the Observatory will be very crowded!
Of course, I can't control weather conditions, so if it is cloudy we may not see the full moon.
Los Feliz- Griffith Park Loop
Distance: 3.8 miles
"This is a challenging walk that rolls from the oak-lined foothills of Griffith Park up into the park itself, winding around the famed Griffith Park Observatory. Along the way, gigantic city views, some extreme staircases, and Frank Lloyd Wright." Taken from Secret Stairs by Charles Fleming.
This walk will take us on a dirt trail up to the Observatory!
The group will only stay at the Observatory for about 5-10 minutes. You are welcomed to stay longer at the Observatory. Just follow Vermont back down to your car.
Please arrive at the Roosevelt Golf Course by 7pm for introductions.
The walk will start promptly at 7:15pm.
Roosevelt Golf Course
2650 N. Vermont Ave.
Los Angeles, CA
Parking: Plenty of free parking near the golf course.
Pace: All levels are welcomed. This will be a slower paced walk. We will wait for people to catch up at the top of stair cases.
You are responsible for keeping pace with the group. If you aren't able to keep up, you are on your own to get back to the starting point.
Walk will take about 1 hour & 30 minutes.
After Hike Frozen Yogurt at Froyo Life on Hillhurst.
It's "Guess Your Weight Wednesdays" if you guess the correct weight of your frozen yogurt, it will be free!
If you're an obnoxious loudmouth or a resident genius-somebody who thinks they know it all and has to tell everybody, please do not sign up. Just leave the group. I'm really tired of dealing with these types of personalities on these walks.
No crashers- Please sign up for this event. Please do not just show up.
RSVP limits are set, because too many people creates a bottleneck on the stairs.
Please keep your RSVP updated and current. Repeated No Shows may lead to members being removed from the group.
If your plans have changed, please change your RSVP ASAP, so those on the waitlist can be given enough notice!
There usually are no restrooms along these walks. Restrooms are usually only available at the starting point of the walks.
Bring plenty of water and sunscreen.
Always wear running/tennis shoes. Open toed shoes are not a good idea for these stairs walks.
