A Weekend in Eagle Rock Pt. 1

Please join your fellow stairclimbers as we hike up to the "Eagle Rock" and then climb the stairs in Eagle Rock and the western most part of Pasadena.

This is an Eagle Rock weekend, as Sunday, we hike to the Eagle Rock out in the

Starting Point:

Eagle Rock Recreation Center

1100 Eagle Vista Dr,

Los Angeles, Ca

Parking: Plenty of free parking on Eagle Vista Dr.

Click for Route- About 6 miles, with an easy bailout at about 4 miles.  You will have a short walk back to the rec center.

Pace: Moderate Pace-  But, there are long stretches where it's flat and we'll pick up the pace on those parts.

You are responsible for keeping pace with the group.  If you aren't able to keep up, you are on your own to get back to the starting point.

Walk will take about 2 hours and 30 mins.

If you're an obnoxious loudmouth or a resident genius-somebody who thinks they know it all and has to tell everybody, please do not sign up.  Just leave the group.  I'm really tired of dealing with these types of personalities on these walks.

No crashers- Please sign up for this event.  Please do not just show up.

RSVP limits are set, because too many people creates a bottleneck on the stairs.

Please keep your RSVP updated and current.  Repeated No Shows may lead to members being removed from the group.

If your plans have changed, please change your RSVP ASAP, so those on the waitlist can be given enough notice!

There usually are no restrooms along these walks. Restrooms are usually only available at the starting point of the walks.

Bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Always wear running/tennis shoes. Open toed shoes are not a good idea for these stairs walks.

Any questions or concerns please email me, David

David, thank u for welcoming me to your group. Unfortunately I had to bail out early after coming down from the Eagle Rock hill/mountain. This was kinda of a wake up call to realize how out of shape I really am. Haven't done anything active for awhile until today. But, I plan to continue. You will see me again. Thanks again.

Another interesting urban exploration with David, this time beginning with a trail climb up to great view over Scholl Canyon (beyond which sits Glendale's massive landfill - see it on Google's satellite view to believe it!) and then a walk up shaded lanes as the hardscrabble periphery of Los Angeles transitions sublimely to lush greenery and picture-perfect homes in Pasadena. Back to the broken pavement and strip malls of North Figueroa and you know you're in LA. Where else would a boundary between cities be so dramatic?

Really interesting walk/hike. Different because we started our day by hiking up to the top of mountain and then moved to streets and staircases. Got to see some beautiful neighborhoods in Pasadena. Thanks, David (our leader).....

Thank you so much David. Sorry for lagging, first time hiking in a long while, didn't expect it would be difficult to keep up. Now I know. Everyone was so sweet to check on me. I always wanted to hike to the rock. Another reason to love my neighborhood. Yay.

Bummer, we just did Eagle Rock/West Pasadena this past weekend: 17 sets of stairs totaling 999 stair steps. Lots of cool houses, pets, and plant life to see.

Question... are dogs allowed? I have a friendly, well behaved yorkie who loves hikes. I would pick him up the stairs so he's not in the way. Is this okay?

    June 4, 2014

    • David

Yes, dogs are allowed on this and almost all other stairhikes.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
