MLK Holiday Walk #10 Happy Valley & Montecito Heights

If you have the day off for the Martin Luther King Jr.'s Holiday, please join us as we do a walk from Fleming's book:

Walk #10 Happy Valley and Montecito Heights

Distance: 3.7 miles
Steps: 626
Difficulty: 5

There are some dirt trails on this walk and a wonderful view of downtown LA.

Walk will take 1 hour and 15 mins.

"This is an astonishing walk - very long and very rigorous - through one of the city's most unknown areas. As you walk you'll find horizon-to-horizon views of the Los Angeles basin, streets named after minerals and gemstones, and a network of unpaved mountain roads - all less than five miles from City Hall." Taken from "Secret Stairs" by Charles Fleming.

Pictures of the Staircases and Route.

Hoping to see many new members on this walk!

Meeting Place:

Fresco Market
4617 Huntington Drive North,
Los Angeles, CA

Fresco Market is kind of hidden, so look for the Shell gas station on the corner.

There is street parking near the market.  I don't advise parking in Fresco's parking lot.

Time: Please arrive by 1pm.  Walk will start promptly at 1:15pm.

Pace: Fast workout pace.  This isn't a guided tour but meant to be a workout.

If you are unable to keep up with the group, you are on your own to get back to the starting point.

No crashers- Please sign up for this event.  Please do not just show up.

RSVP limits are set, because I don't want a huge group on these walks.  So, if you RSVP only for yourself, don't bring a guest.

Please keep your RSVP updated and current.  Repeated No Shows may lead to members being removed from the group.

There usually are no restrooms along these walks. Restrooms are usually only available at the starting point of the walks.

Always bring plenty of water.

Always wear running/tennis shoes. Open toed shoes are not a good idea for these stairs walks.

Any questions or concerns please email me, David.

Quite interesting, and weather was great. A bit on the hot side, but no complains after some chilly days.

    Thanks David :-)
Great hike. Nice weather, views and workout. Here's a link for the stats and map for the hike today. If you view the map you can click on the map button to zoom in closer than terrain view. The speed is not correct as I didn't hold the iPhone stationary.

Weather reports say it will be 80. We will be exposed to the sun, so bring a hat and sunscreen.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
