Announcing the First Annual Norwalk Islands Kayaker Jamboree. This will be the world biggest gathering of Kayakers to ever take place on the Norwalk Islands (unless you do not come). Kayakers from ConnYak, CT AMC, Sound Kayakers, the Hudson River Kayaking Meetup, the Wethersfield Kayaking Meetup, The Southington Sea Kayaking Meetup, The Tuesday Night Paddlers, and any other group are welcome to come and to invite friends.
Camp sites are reserved for Friday night and Saturday night. Any one can paddle over to the island and join the Jamboree. You must bring your own gear, supplies, and beverages. If you plan to paddle to the island on Friday night then RSVP on this page. If you plan to join the group on Saturday then RSVP on the Saturday event page.

Camp sites are reserved by SKG in advance. We are asking that participants make a $5 contribution to the SKG.
We are planning to do an Island Clean up on Sunday morning. We hope every one can join us for this. Please bring heave duty garbage bags.
Yes, unless you have sail boat, motor boat, or can swim very well, you must have a kayak. If I do the Manhattan circumnav on Saturday, I'll be out for the cleanup on Sunday. Otherwise I'll be there Friday night, Saturday and Sunday on a "commuter" basis.

Done this twice before with Michele's group. A wonderful location and a really really nice deal. You will not be disappointed! This should be the premium kayak social event of the year. A time to bond and make new kayak buddies!

It depends on the tide and wind conditions as well as your paddle speed. The Calf Pasture Beach Boat Launch is about 2 miles to Shea Island. The State Boat Ramp on the Saugatuck River is about 5 miles. The Rowayton Community Beach on the Five Mile River is about 2.5 miles from Shea Island. The average kayaker paddles around 3 miles per hour.

Or do you have a chart for this event?

How long does it take to get to the island from the mainland? I won't be able to get to the boat launch until probably 7:30pm and don't know the way to the island. Do you think this will be an issue? Thanks and really looking forward to camping!

    •  What a weekend! Beautiful weather mixed with wicked storms made for some interesting time on the island. Thanks to all the folks that came out and helped, or just visited. We did get a bit wet, but the rain cleared up after a few hours and it was cool and beautiful. I hope to attend another jamboree and clean up. It was worth the trouble of a few hours of stormy weather.
