  • Carolyn's House for biking; new State launch on Bantam Lake for kayaking

233 Lakes Road, Bethlehem, CT (map)

    41.656235 -73.197639

  • We are having our second annual "Let's Get This Summer Started" party. We had a great time last year and are hoping for even more fun this year. Kayaking and a flat bike ride will start at the State boat launch on Bantam Lake beginning at noon. The State boat launch is located at the corner of Bantam Lake Rd and Palmer Rd in Bantam - use 197 Bantam Lake Rd., Bantam, CT in your GPS or favorite map software.

The festivities will start at 4:00 PM for those who would rather just party. The map above accurately depicts Carolyn's address for the party. We will have fireworks shortly after dark by "GR81".

Please bring a salad or dessert and your favorite beverages. We'll have the entrees.

Please RSVP - we hope you can make it!

To be clear to all, the party, as well as the kayaking, is cancelled. We will be rescheduling in a few weeks. Stay tuned!

    May 24, 2013

  • Ken

Well, I hate to do this after so much hype and preparation, but the weather just doesn't seem to want to cooperate. The combination of cold temps, high winds and heavy rain will not bode well for an outdoor party, let alone a white-capped kayak ride across the lake.

We will be rescheduling after looking at the current posted kayaking events to minimize conflicts. Sorry everyone, and we hope to all the newcomers at the next event.

    Bummer!

Jonathan - Can you bring my skirt with you to Carolyns? that sounds funny...

    May 23, 2013

    • Jonathan

I tried to tell you you were bound to forget something if you started peeling everything off in the middle of the street...

    • Jonathan

So disappointed about this weekend. Let me know if you need it for later in the weekend -- I'm sure we can figure something out.

      May 23, 2013

  • Carolyn

Hi Dawn, you can drop them off before. I'm about 10 minutes from the lake. I won't be paddling, so you can stop by anytime

    May 23, 2013

  • Carolyn

Hi Peter... in response to your question: d/dx(e^x) = e^x 
but my math skills are a little rusty so you need to check it for me.
I'll talk to Cyn and make sure she doesn't over work you on Saturday, so you will have some energy left for picking on Ken.

    • Dawn

Can I drop off my veggies & dip at your house before the paddle? What time will you be leaving for Bantam Lake & how far away are you from the lake?

      May 23, 2013

  • Peter

Cyn is forcing me to labor... I will not be able to play.

What is the derivative of e^x dy/dx ?

    May 23, 2013

  • cynthia

Finally! Pete and I are moving this weekend, so we cannot make the paddle. We do plan on coming by the party...can't miss the Ken's redemption.

Hi Dawn, It doesn't have a "real address" but here is the link to the state of CT DEEP:http://www.ct.gov/deep/cwp/view... It will show you the streets and cross streets. My address is 233 Lakes Rd Bethlehem CT

    May 22, 2013

  • Dawn

Ken, Yes, I will bring a veggie platter and some wine. Should I meet you right at Bantum Lake?

    May 22, 2013

    • Dawn

Carolyn/Ken, Can you send the address for Bantam Lake? I have never been there before.

      May 22, 2013

  • Carolyn

Hi Lucy! You can drop food off at my house before you go to the lake 233 Lakes Rd Bethlehem CT . The launch is on Bantam Lake : http://www.ct.gov/deep/cwp/view.... looking forward to the papa!

I guess it's time I chimed in!! David.. even though you are eye candy already, I expect you to bake a four layer double chocolate fudge cake with extra icing (from scratch) and please wear underwear! John K: We were paddling with dolphins in SC two weeks ago, but we couldn't fit one in the car to bring home.. so I'm sorry, none in Bantam Lake! If you can grab some cheese and crackers, that would be great Lucy: I can't wait for your appetizers!!! We have plenty of meat, but thanks so much for offering. I will take you up on the cooking offer though.. how are you at grilling??

    May 21, 2013

    • Dawn

Carol what do you need me to bring?

      May 21, 2013

    • Lucy

Hi Carolyn! Im not familiar where the launch and house are, but would like to drop off food before the paddle if its ok? Not too bad at grilling, though I thought that was David's specialty :)). I'll be bringing ceviche and 'papa a la huancayna'. (Potatoes w/spicy creamy sauce). Need any chicken? Looking forward to meeting you!

      May 22, 2013

  • Ken

What the heck, who is using my sign in to answer questions? Stop it right now! Cracked indeed!

    May 21, 2013

  • Ken

Jonathan: No doubt about it.. and just think, they haven't been drinking (yet!), I happen to love beets, so anything you do with them is fine with me. I'd say servings for 10 would be plenty. Thanks! Dawn: If a veggie platter is easy for you, that would be great.. Thanks!

    May 21, 2013

  • Jonathan

    Hey CaroKen,
It's decided: this group is definitely cracked.

Thinking of bringing a beet salad (it's better than it sounds, I promise). How many servings do you recommend?

If you're overwhelmed with salads I'd be happy to bring something else.

Ken, I will a Peruvian appetizer I think everyone will enjoy and some 'coronitas' to go with it. I can also bring burgers or chicken or whatever else it's needed. I love to cook, so let me know! Thank you for organizing this! In looking forward to meeting you all!

    May 19, 2013

    • Jonathan

Hey Lucy - does that include Lima beans? ;)

      May 21, 2013

  • Jonathan

    David's on a roll today!

    May 21, 2013

  • Ken

At this point the weather forecast calls for temps in the mid-upper 60's and NNW winds 5-9 mph, so keep an eye out later in the week and be sure to dress appropriately, i.e., not like David with his holey jeans.

Lorraine, the lake can be very calm or somewhat choppy depending on the wind speed and direction. There will be enough people paddling that there should be 2 or 3 pods for different levels (speed) of kayakers. It is all flat water paddling.

I'd love to come if I could find a kayak to buy before May 25th which is unlikely since I miss my Dagger Catalyst Rec solo kayak that I sold 2 yrs. ago. How big is this lake in Bethlehem, CT? I could borrow a 9.5' kayak from a friend, but I don't want to be blowing around in circles if the lake is huge with chops and possible wind.
Does anyone know of anyone selling a 12' recreational kayak any time soon? It can't weigh more than 45 lbs. and has to have at least a 21" wide cockpit.

    Thanks,
    Lorraine

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
