At noon on Sunday the SKG will sponsor an island clean up on Shea Island. Not just our mess for the YakJam, but as much of the Island as we can. Kayakers interested in joining our group for this philanthropic effort can gather at the State Boat Ramp on the Saugatuck River and paddle over as a group. Alternately you can paddle from the Rowayton Community Beach on the Five Mile River or from Calf pasture Park in Norwalk. We will meet on the south shore of Shea Island. Kayakers from ConnYak, CT AMC, Sound Kayakers, the Hudson River Kayaking Meetup, the Wethersfield Kayaking Meetup, The Southington Sea Kayaking Meetup, The Tuesday Night Paddlers, and any other group are welcome to come and to invite friends. Please bring a heavy duty garbage bags, gloves, and a bag lunch for yourself. Remember to bring fresh water, sunscreen, and bug spray. This will be the rap-up event of the Norwalk Islands Kayaker Jamboree. If you can not make the full weekend of events, please come to help clean up the island habitat. If we get enough volunteers we might spread out the clean up to Sheffield or Chimon Island.

The weather has forced us to cancel this event - Peter will try to reschedule in a few weeks. Thank you to everyone who was planning to come anyway!

We will keep an eye on this, but best not to make any decisions till Sat afternoon, after we have recovered from Friday nights pillaging and drunkenness & the weatherman has more imminent information.

I checked the weather for Sunday. It will be cloudy but only a 40% chance of rain. The wind is 9 mph coming from the south. When crossing, if you stay in the shelter of Chimon Island it should be okay. the rain will hopefully also reduce boat traffic. Please check out the maps on the Message Board. I will post additional weather updates if necessary.
