AFFORDABLE KAYAK STORAGE. NO WAITING LIST. NO WORK REQUIREMENT.
at the JFK Marina Kayak/Canoe Storage
Facility (Kennedy Boathouse) in Yonkers, NY

The annual berth rental fee will be $200.
For this you'll have 24 hour access to Kennedy Boathouse
You'll be able to wash your boat down with fresh water--right on site.
And, if you want a locker--add $25.

For further information on canoe or kayak storage at Kennedy Boathouse you
can contact BOYD ADOLFSSON, the House Captain at Kennedy Boathouse.
Boyd can be reached by e-mail at badolfsson@aol.com
(mailto:badolfsson@aol.com) . Or, call him on his cell phone at 914 325 5848.

You can launch your kayak right from the ramp at the northern end of Kennedy
Marina into a rather protective cove on the Hudson River.
Park your car for free while you enjoy the Hudson River right at JFK Marina
Or car-top your kayak to points near or far such as to Jamaica Bay, Cold
Spring or Orchard Beach etc, etc., etc.

Kennedy Marina can be reached from NYC with a 25 minute train ride on the
Metro North Hudson Line.
Get off the train at the Glenwood Station in Yonkers. Kennedy Boathouse is a
short walk from the station.

Renting a storage berth at the Kennedy Boathouse will be open to ALL without
regard to club membership. So you can be a member of any kayak club or NO kayak club.
And, both residents and non-residents of Yonkers will be treated the same.

The Small Boat Shop (was there buying a kayak with a friend this weekend!) has storage in their warehouse for $35/mo I believe)

I store mine in a waterfront rack in Cos Cob. Any Greenwich resident has access to the waterfront racks at the various beaches.

CK

Greenwich residents can use rack storage for kayaks and canoes at:

Byram Marina
Grass Island Marina
Greenwich Point Marina
Cos Cob Marina

Costs are:
$70 Facility Use Permit fee
$85 Summer rack fee
$65 winter rack fee (Nov. to April)
(i.e. $220 total for the year)

There is a waiting list, so it is best that you complete your application right away.

I have a rack space and am a member of Halloween Yacht Club, in Stamford right off Shippan Ave at West Beach and Cummings Park. The dues are approximately $225.00 for the year and approximately $100 for a rack (not a berth slip!). You have to help with some of the club maintenance, but the racks are very convenient, and I have access to the water.

The City of Stamford offers Rack storage at Cove Island Park for $75 per season plus $20 for parking permit (Rack storage non-resident $159, plus $225.00 for seasonal beach parking permit (excludes weekend access, $20 per use day on weekends)).

However, it is about 1/4 mile walk from parking to the racks.

You can store your kayak in the summer at many town parks and local marinas. If you need off season storage, you can store a kayak in The Small Boat Shop warehouse for $35 per month. Delivery, pick-up, cleaning and other services are also available.

The Halloween Yacht Club in Stamford has year round outdoor storage.

They are located in Stamford right between Cummings Beach and West Beach. They are a very modest priced club. Their membership is small and they would like to grow a little as well as get in some younger blood. I have meet with a couple of board members and they are excited about having our SKG members join their club. Right now we have three members of SKG that are members of HYC.

I know, when you hear the word "yacht club," you automatically think it must mean big bucks. But, HYC is very reasonably priced. I think the membership and rack fee combined are a few hundred dollars a year. It is hard to find storage for that price. Membership in the club has additional benefits.

If you are looking for a place to store you kayak you should check out their website.
http://www.hyc.net/... . Contact their Membership Chairman (e-mail is on the HYC website) for membership information.

Be sure to mention that you are from the Stamford Kayak Group.

Don e-mailed me:
kayak racks are available on Pear Tree Point Beach in Darien at the Darien Boat Club. The racks are for club members only. The DBC is open to Darien residents only and has a $300 annual membership fee.

The down side is there is a very long wait list for kayak racks -- 90 members currently on the list -- #1 on the list signed up in July 2005, so assume a 3 to 4 year wait.
