Here are the details about the Fossil Point kayak tour with Avila Beach Paddlesports: Sat July 20, 8AM, meet at their Port office
There is a maximum of 10 paddlers so sign up soon.
This is a kayak only event. They recommend renting all gear from them as there will be some action around the rocks. Only sit-on-top single kayaks are allowed, and the price is the same if you use your gear (but please talk to Vince before doing so!). They are giving our meetup group a discount, and cost is $60. See http://www.slocoastkayaks.com/tours/ for more details about the tour. The tour will include all gear, water, snack, a photo CD, and the best guide: Vince! This is a fun and educational tour, and he will teach us how to safely paddle in the surf zone. Plan on about 4 hours for the tour.
Everyone going needs to contact Vince & Em (Avila Beach Paddlesports [masked]) in advance to reserve their spot. They take visa/mc to hold the reservation. There is a 24 hour cancellation policy because they set everything up on the beach prior to the tour. After you make your reservation, please add a comment in this event indicating such (so we know who to expect). In other words, a "yes" rsvp in the meetup group only means you're going if you contacted them!
This is probably not a trip for first-timers, so please browse their website and Facebook pages for pictures from the tour to be sure this adventure is for you! They will give us some instruction to help us be better kayakers and for when we get to the fun stuff at Fossil Point! The Fossil Point Tour can be a little to a lot more strenuous than flatwater paddling in the harbor, depending on the swell and wind. The tour entails several miles of paddling, lots of excitement, and there's a good chance of going for a swim (part of the fun). We go looking for action in Fossil Point!
If there is a large summer south swell, we will unfortunately have to cancel the tour. If this is the case, there will be no charge, of course.
Vince sent me a couple of attachments about the tour. If I can't figure out how to attach them, please send me (Laurie) a message through this meetup and I'll email them to you. One attachment has basic information about the tour, and the other is the tour waiver. Everyone needs to review the tour tips and bring their completed waiver the morning of the tour, in order to get everyone out on the water more quickly.
Remember, everyone participating needs to be at the Avila Beach Paddlesports port office before the 8AM start time. Thanks.
