Game Recap, 2013-07-27

After spending some time reviewing the materials for the upcoming campaign, and based on the fact that a few players had to cancel, we decided to instead play a pick-up game. We set point values at 300, Y180. Gren chose to play the Lyrans ( a tug and a cruiser), while Kerry and I played the Gorn (Kerry played a heavy battle cruiser, while I played a war destroyer).

The two sides began by approaching each other cautiously. The Gorn kept their speed low in order to reinforce shields. The Lyrans began pelting the Gorn BCH with disruptor fire, then turned away. The Gorn patiently pursued, launching several plasma torpedoes from the BCH to harass the enemy tug.

The Gorn slowly increased speed. Another round of disruptor fire chipped away at the shields of the BCH. The Lyrans turned and began closing distance. Near the end of the turn, both Lyran ships began spooling up ESGs. The Gorn increased speed to 30 and 31, splitting up to avoid impacting the fields. The Lyrans gave chase to the BCH. The Gorn destroyer launched plasma torpedoes against the Lyran tug, which impacted its weakened rear shield and scored some moderate internal damage. Meanwhile, the Lyrans unleashed a phaser barrage on the Gorn BCH and scored major internal damage.

The Lyran cruiser then put the Gorn BCH in a tractor beam, hoping to maneuver the ship into the tug's ESGs. Kerry, now flying a ship he considered doomed, used the Lyrans' own tactic against them and drug the cruiser into the tug's ESG field! Of course, he impacted more ESGs himself, causing his ship to explode. The resulting explosion, however, destroyed the Lyran cruiser.

The remaining Gorn ship now faced a Lyran tug with 7 disruptors and 4 ESGs. Yeah, I decided that discretion really is the better part of valor at that point.

This was a decisive victory for Gren. Kerry did an excellent job, however, especially in using the Lyran tractor beams to his own advantage.
