We played two PF Flotilla battles. Here is the rundown:
#1: Kzinti vs. Lyrans
Nick and I played the Kzinti, while Gren and Dave played the Lyrans.
The Flotillas began moving directly toward each other. The Kzinti pre-launched a wave of drones, and then launched another on impulse 4. The Lyrans were moving speed 30, while the Kzinti speed was 24 (to allow the drones to slightly out-pace them). At about range 5, then Kzinti launched another wave of drones. The Lyrans eliminated the first wave of drones, then launched an alpha strike at the Kzinti. The Lyran strike, however, was largely ineffectual due to some REALLY bad dice rolls. They only managed to cause light damage to one Kzinti PF. At this point, the Lyrans surrendered, as they were facing two more waves of drones, having already exhausted nearly their entire weapons loadout for the turn.
Nick and I emerged as victors.
#2: Klingons vs. Federation
Gren played the Federation, while Nick and I played the Klingons.
Again, the Flotillas began by moving toward each other, with each side's scout hanging back to support the rest of the flotilla. Both sides pre-launched drone waves. Both sides used ADDs to eliminate drones as they closed. The Federation ships closed to range 8 and unleashed a massive photon torpedo strike against one of the Klingon PFs--the strike was 100% accurate, and blew the Klingon ship into dust. The Federation ships then turned away. The Klingon Flotilla struggled to keep pace, but could not close the distance. Meanwhile, the Federation ships were re-arming their torpedoes. The Klingons managed to cause some light damage to two Federation ships, and crippled a third with a T-Bomb (after turning about and luring the Federation ships back toward them). At the beginning of the third turn, the Klingons realized they had nothing to lose. On impulse three, they performed HETs and raced toward the Federation ships. A massive exchange of fire resulted in the crippling of a Klingon ship, and considerable damage to two others. The Federation ships employed a T-Bomb to eliminate most of the inbound drones, and limited the fields of fire, which effectively countered the Klingon offensive. The Klingons ran or surrendered.
Congratulations to Gren on this second one for a battle well-played.
All-in-all, we agreed that these little ships are a lot tougher than you would think from a simple review of the SSDs. The alternate Damage Allocation Chart that they use makes them difficult to destroy! We are all looking forward to using these ships in the future.
