Dinner and Movie with Crew (that's YOU!)

Let's meet up at Kennedy School (McMenamins) for Drinks/dinner (5:30pm) and then a cheap movie in their theatre. Dallas Buyers Club is schedule for 815pm.

If you haven't been to Kennedy school it's a really treat. Once a functional school, this brewery/restaurant serves the NE Portland area with micro brews and tasty burgers. This event is a great way for our members and get to know each other on a low-stress situation. Still not sure? Bring a friend; stay for just the dinner or movie.

Make it so.

I'm sorry I missed it if I was given a spot. The website was down and I was unable to see if I'd moved off the waiting list or not and I didn't want to just show up. Next time.

Ugh, I went to Ikea the day before yesterday and instead of asking for help, I did it all myself and hurt my back. It really hurts so I will have to stay home with ice and my own cranky self.

      Hope you feel better soon.

About the movie: Dallas Buyers Club: Matthew McConaughey headlines director Jean-Marc Vallée's biographical drama centering on the story of Ron Woodroof, a Texas electrician who was diagnosed as HIV-positive in 1986, and who subsequently devoted his life to providing fellow HIV patients with non-FDA-approved drugs and supplements during an era when doctors were still struggling to understand the devastating disease. Defying his surprise death sentence, Woodroof set out to procure any and all non-toxic alternative HIV treatments available, and established a "buyers club" to provide the treatments to others afflicted with the disease. But that mission quickly made him a target for both the U.S. medical establishment and the pharmaceutical industry, both of which resented his defiance of government sanctions, and joined forces to shut down his operation by any means necessary. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

My wife Rend and I are Looking forward to meeting everyone tomorrow for dinner. Hopefully they will have fresh Gagh, Tube Worms or other fine delicacies from the Portland quadrant.

PS - We are going to skip the movie portion also.

  • Maggie P.

I'll be there for dinner, but I have a paper to write and should probably skip the movie.

The movie doesn't interest me at all either, but Dave and I will come for dinner and hang out with everyone.

  • Richard V.

Unfortunately, I've had to change my RSVP to a NO. I am eager to meet some cool Trek fans and was looking forward to this but the movie doesn't interest me at all and I can't really afford to eat a meal in a restaurant. Hopefully I will make it to another meet up event in the future.

Hi May - To clarify: McMenamin's will do separate checks for everyone in our delightful group, yes? And yup, I'm bringing cash. Thanks very much - this is a big job!

Hey Daniel G. - You correctly answered your own question. :-). It's not just RSVP'ing for STFNW events. The Meetup software prompts you for the # of people attending, e.g., "Just me", "+1", etc. It's easy to miss if you're new to the whole Meetup thing. Next event, when you RSVP, watch the prompt - you'll see it. For this event, two people are "+1". Good question and excellent arithmetic! :-)

Ah, that makes a lot of sense now. Thanks Lisa. :D

great idea! Jen and I have been thinking about getting a McMenamin's Passport, this might be a great time to get one started.

Daniel I see that Jen signed up and that you are listed with +1. are you bring a friend? If not can you release your +1, I think someone wants to join this Meetup. Thanks.

Possible new person question but I only (currently) see 18 people signed up in the right side under "Your RSVP: Yes". Does Meetup perhaps count the (currently) 2 people not attending in the list of 20 slots? Or maybe 2 slots are reserved for the organizers?

Only curious because my wife Rend was hoping to attend and is currently on the waiting list.

Thanks in advance for any info. :D

Betazoid senses tingling... perhaps "guests" is the answer to the mystery two slots?

      February 23, 2014

    • May

Looks like you got on the list. When I set limit there were only 18. looks like the list filled up today. No worries, there's always last minute cancels. +1 are included to the total and are counted like members.

OK, until after March getting to one of these events is unlikely at best, however this sounds interesting!
If this place was a real school, are we going to be served caffeteria style?

    February 16, 2014

    • Lisa D.

Rob, do you still reside in Spokane (your profile info.) or down here in the Portland/Vancouver area?

      February 23, 2014

    • Rob

Yup, still here, watching the snow pile up outside too! Have close Kin in the Seattle area, and a few friends near Portland. As soon as my school schedule and budget can let me (us) my wife and I want to attend an event in that area!

I have made dinner reservations for 530p, but the movie will probably the 830 showing. still don't know what movie though. I hope this helps. It would be good to see you! it's been forever!

      February 22, 2014

  • May

Fear not, I have not forgotten our dinner/movie date! ; ) Kennedy school has NOT posted their March 1st movies yet. (The movie will probably be at 830.) I will post ASAP, regardless I have reserved a table for 20 Trekkies for 530pm; There will be beer and grub in our future! More details will follow, stay calm and walk on.
