"From Idea To Product"
Speaker: Tom Nora, former Product Manager of 3M/Imtec and multiple stints as VP Product Marketing
For this meetup we will discuss all things PRODUCT and UX in the current startup world.
The process of Productization, Product Management, Product Marketing, UX, UI and overall product design are some of the most important aspects of any technology company wishing to grow over the long term.
Many early stage businesses don't understand this vital area of company formation and development or don't have the luxury to respect this area enough. They have an amazing idea, and want to get it up on the wen asap, have an MVP to show investors but are missing critical pieces to have a product that can survive the market. Or they have no product, but a service or customized offering. Understanding and practicing excellence in product design, management and marketing can make the difference in getting funded, growing and long term sustainability.
"UX and Usability"
Speaker: Carol Rossi, Senior Director, User Experience Research at Edmunds.com; formerly worked at Kelly Blue Book, Art Center College of Design, Yahoo! GeoCities, Xerox and Unisys.
The terms UX and Usability are now ubiquitous in almost all companies of any size; as the bar continuously raises, UX it is a discipline that startups are embracing early on, and certainly critical to the "Product" definition and design. The User Experience drives all product design decisions by looking beyond features and specs, trying to provide a great experience by using a product. Think of the first time you used an iPhone. and the smile it gave you.
We're lucky to have Carol Rossi as our speaker for this topic. In addition to the above listed companies, Carol has consulted on usability to many Internet leaders including Symantec, Avery Dennison, Juno, Net Zero, Idealab and LiveNation.
Product Management, UX and Usability touch all areas of a startup - engineering, sales, marketing, customer support, QA, everything, so this should be a mind stimulating and fun evening. More announcements and parking info to come.
"Adobe Updates"
Speaker: Adam Bell, Super Evangelist, Adobe
Creative Cloud, Adobe Edge Animate, ??

Informative speakers with thought-provoking insight. Woman from Edmunds (Carol?) inspired consideration of how to adjust marketing and UX for my startup. Adobe presentation wasn't highly relevant and too in the weeds. A high level overview of Edge features would have been better given this isn't a purely designer meetup.

I learnt to appreciate the work of a Product Manager..and how UIs can greatly affect revenue and brand perception.

Great presenters, but I was disappointed that people kept interrupting the usability expert with questions. She was very gracious, but it squeezed the third presenter for time.
