Broadway musical "Hair" @ the Ike (PSU Eisenhower Auditorium)

Meet for dinner downtown before catching the touring revival of the classic Broadway rock musical HAIR.

Even though State College is isolated from big city nightlife, we still get some great culture on occasions especially with the traveling performing arts shows at Eisenhower Auditorium. Thought this Broadway revival would be a show that some local professionals would be interested in seeing.

Description of the performance from the PSU Center for the Performing Arts (CPA) website:

The Public Theater’s new production of HAIR, winner of the Tony Award for best revival of a musical, energetically depicts the birth of a cultural movement in the 1960s that changed America forever. The touring Broadway rock musical aims to resonate with audiences with its powerful messages of peace and love when it comes to Eisenhower Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 12.

With an iconic score including hits such as “Let the Sun Shine In,” Aquarius,” “Hair,” and “Good Morning Starshine,” HAIR follows a group of charismatic, free-spirited young people who passionately preach a lifestyle of pacifism and free love in a society riddled with intolerance and brutality.

The critically acclaimed revival became a theatrical tour de force in its limited engagement in New York City’s Central Park. It later moved to Broadway, where it earned the 2009 Tony plus the Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle awards for outstanding revival of a musical.

Purchase tickets, which are $62 and $53 for an adult, $44 and $38 for a University Park student, and $54 and $48 for a person 18 and younger. For more info go to the CPA website: http://www.cpa.psu.edu/news/index.html#5050

I'll suggest meeting at Lemongrass at 432 E College Ave (or another restaurant near E. College) for dinner @ 5:00pm and walk up Shortlidge to Eisenhower.

sure I can probably hang for a drink someplace close after. I'll see how tired I am as I was away last weekend at a conference and still catching up. but like the idea of a drink after.

I called today and they said several seats have opened up. I'm going to aim for the balcony, as well. Anybody wanna get a drink afterwards? My cell is[masked]-9022. Let me know if you're up for it. Just trying to have a chance to actually speak to everyone since I can't make dinner.

I also have a ticket in the last row or so of balcony.

I'll meet up w/ Vic and Dave at Lemongrass at about 5:30. Not going to try to squeeze in dinner and rush to the Viewpoints. I'll just hang at Lemongrass w/ whoever is there.

I do know there are tickets left as of this morning. It was fairly filled. Only about 80% sold. So mostly last couple rows in each tier. but enough that if you don't have a ticket you can still get one and we can somehow sit near each other

Abhi & Katie will you be joining us.

My cell is[masked] if you want to text me to meet up.

I'm not going to be able to make dinner. I am expecting a TV to be delivered tomorrow and want to run home before the show. Don't have tickets yet.

Just checking to see what everyone's interest is in this event. I have not bought tix yet but will prob just get one tomorrow. Is everyone who is RSVP'd still interested in going? Do you have tix & does anyone want to meet for quick dinner first. Dave had suggested going to the Artistic Viewpoints pre-show discussion. Who is interested in that? If so it would mean other not meeting for dinner or doing a really early dinner.

Message back w/ your thoughts for tomorrow.

I already have a ticket. I'm currently planning on leaving Lemongrass at 6pm to walk up to the theatre for Artistic Viewpoints.

I have requested to use my set of two free faculty appreciation tickets for this performance. I may be able to bring someone as my guest. If anyone is interested, let me know. I'd prefer it be someone who wouldn't be able to afford the ticket, otherwise. First come, first served. Will let you all know for sure if I am able once I hear back from the box office.

Hi All. Bad news. The funding for the program was cut and now they have restricted which shows you can request tickets for. Broadway or traveling shows are out. :( Grrrrr...

Do you intend to go to Artistic Viewpoints? (It fills up, so I think we'd have to get there at 6:15 or before.)
    --------
Artistic Viewpoints, an informal moderated discussion featuring HAIR Company Manager Mark Johnson, is offered in Eisenhower Auditorium one hour before the performance and is free for ticket holders. Artistic Viewpoints regularly fills to capacity, so seating is available on a first-arrival basis.

I hadn't thought about it, but an interesting idea. If anyone wants to go out to eat then we'd have to do it much more quickly. But a great idea.

Asking for time off in my second month is not the first impression I want to make! :-)
