Still ON! Halloween Special Boardgaming @ Panera (SI MALL)12 noon-5pm

Halloween is coming! So let's have some fun! We will have a costume contest, play monster, zombie, and/or spooky Halloween games, and go "trick or treating" with our own pot-luck candy zone! So everyone, wear a costume (or at least something fitting the theme!), bring some Halloween themed games, and most of all..... bring some individually wrapped Halloween Candy for our Candy Zone! :)

RSVP RSVP RSVP and PLEASE tell us what games you are bringing, and approximately what time you will be there!

****NOTE: Costume contest will take place around 3:30pm.********

Sunday Boardgaming time! Hurray! Much love and thanks to our Panera Bread venue for hosting our boardgaming group!!!!

We start at 12pm NOON and finish EARLY @5pm. That is a potential 5 hours of gaming!!!! YAY!!!!!!

Here is how it works:

  • You bring game(s) that you would like to play.
  • I bring game(s) that I would like to play.
  • People divide up and choose games to play, based on interest, and number of people a game can play.
  • Repeat until there are no more games/gamers/time at the venue! LOL

It really IS that simple.

Beginners are welcome. It is helpful to remember to bring your reading glasses, as many of the games have small print, or directions on the boards or cards.

(Organizer tip: I have a book to read, if I get stuck without a game, or I'll just watch the game being played.)

There is no gambling permitted, including poker.

We play board games, and some dice/tile/card games that are considered to be a part of the "board game genre." We do not play collectible card games, computer/video games, role playing games (rpg), LARPS, or physical games like pool/ darts/ baseball/ soccer/ fuseball/ air hockey/ ping pong etc.

Essentially, this is a meet up groups for adults and mature teen-agers. Please invite accordingly. (Thanks!)

While we tend to play "Euro-games" there are members who enjoy playing traditional games. Members must realize that you get what you put into this group: if you don't bring games that you enjoy, we can't play them. Use the Comments space below to discuss what games you are bringing, so folks don't bring duplicates, and/or people have the opportunity to check out the rules online. Also put down games you are hoping to play, so if someone has it, they'll likely pack it in their gaming bag(s). People can also "claim spots" in games, or at least express interest in playing them.

Please keep in mind that while we *do* want you to purchase Panera Bread food and drink, we do *not* want purchased food and drinks on the board and card games. Please make certain your gaming area is clean of all spills, food, and debris, and please make use of the napkins before handling game components. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Free parking and Buses are available. The store is in the strip mall behind the Staten Island Mall, Sears Auto side. It shares a lot with TGiF, Outback, Babies R Us, etc.

Finally...... IGNORE the question where it asks you what you plan to bring. INSTEAD...please type what games you are bringing, or hoping to play in the comments section below. Thanks!

Hoping that all the Staten Island Boardgamers are safe and survive Sandy. The sooner she moves out of here, the better.

We had a blast playing silly Halloween games and the costumes rocked! Now we have to roll this over to Thanksgiving somehow! Thanksgiving can be all Settlers and stuff like that type of games. LOL

So, here are my latest thoughts... please chime in.... so far, I don't think we need to cancel. The storm isn't hitting until way later tonight. It might rain tonight, but the severe winds wont be until around 2am and Monday. So, I propose that we play as usual in the afternoon, enjoy our party, and plan on leaving between 5:00 and 6pm (instead of the usual 9pm.) The costume contest was going to be at 4pm. I'm thinking pushing it back to 3/3:30pm.

Hey gang, I was going to try to come down and surprise you all, but given the storm, I think I'll stay near home. Wishing all of you a Happy Halloween, and I will keep Cheri's dad in my thoughts and prayers.

Hey all, my Dad is in the ICU at RUMC, but I am still planning on attending. Obviously, if he takes a turn for the worse, or I'm needed for some reason at the hospital, during our gaming time, I'll have to leave, but I'm fairly sure that won't happen (God willing!) I just wanted to give folks the heads up, so you all don't think I'm rude, and start toilet papering my boardgames! ;) LOL LOL LOL

KT you could call Panera Bread maybe? Or leave a message HERE, and it should be sent to us in an email. :) I hope you can make it. The storm isn't really supposed to happen until Monday. It says it might rain, but, unless you are coming as the Wicked Witch of the West, you shouldn't melt! LOL :) I've got some fun prizes for the costume contest. There are prizes for actual costumes and prizes for "tee shirt" costumes. LOL 2-5:30 is is great! It'll give you lots of chances to play some games. :)

Hi Cheri, I don't have any Halloween-themed games to bring--just the Scrabble set that I was planning to bring last time, and maybe I can find one or two other games around the house. Is that ok?

give bonus points for Halloween words, for example, and/or allow Halloween "names" and words that might not exist in the typical scrabble dictionary. :) You can even come up with a list of words, that, if spelled, will be a super bonus. Hope to see you next week. Don't forget to wear a costume! and bring candy to share! LOL
