Eclipse Board Game Meetup II - We're at it again!

We are at it again, the Galaxy is not a Safe Place!  Planta people fighting Rainbow Troutmen while Orion tries to save the galaxy from the evil Federation.  We held the first meetup for Eclipse:  A New Dawn for the Galaxy on March 23rd and discovered what a great game this is; six players had a very good time discovering the galaxy.

RSVPs are open for new and experienced players; now that we understand the nuances of the rules, we should be able to explain it fairly quickly to new players.  James has also printed extensive play aids for this game, and obtained lots of extra ships and a galaxy mat, going all out to make this the best 4x space game in his collection.  The modular map tiles, random technology draws, and number of different races available makes it so that no two games are the same.

This game should be finished in one session.  Depending on experience level of the players, we could use some of the expansion races this time (without diving fully into the expansion).  The pass-first, go first rule will be used, as it worked very well last time.

I had boatloads of fun. When's the next session? Preferably when the film is not shooting so Zombie Dave can join us.

This was Josh's first game of Eclipse. James brought the game with his new roll-up mat and tackle boxes of well organized game pieces plus plenty of player aid handouts. James and Josh played human positions, while Brian G and I chose aliens. The humans allied as soon as they came into contact, and I thought for awhile it would develop into a humans vs aliens game. Then Brian made contact and allied with both humans and me, so he was not interested in fighting. Brian was my only formal ally, so it looked like I was facing a 2 on 1 vs the humans after I took the center hex and destroyed the Ancient Defense there on Turn 7. James was concerned that I was going to invade his space. There were two hexes adjacent to the center that still had unconquered Ancient ships. I told James that I only wanted the Ancient ships, and was not planning to invade his area. On Turn 8, I destroyed one of the adjacent hexes that had two Ancient Ships.

Due to my lack of income I really couldn't pay to do too many additional actions anyway (either money or materials), so I focused pretty heavily on science. I'd have bought more of the special techs so I could have finished the nanotech track as well. Still, awesome game, good learning experience and I can't wait to play again!

Since I have a natural tendency toward being the hostile warpower in this game with the big unstoppable juggernaut fleet, I need to figure out how to be a real bastage next time to convert my military power into enough points to win the game. I have to stop being "nice" to my neighbors. ;-)

That just means you'll have to limit your "role playing" :-)

Might be able to do part of a day depending on Film shooting Schedule, but don't hold your breath. Game will be available.

    The new ships are...different.

Last time we played, we thought, hey, these ships look just like the ships in Eminent Domain! The designer of Eminent Domain has confirmed today that the same ships were first used in Galactic Emperor, then in Eminent Domain, then in Eclipse :-) I played Galactic Emperor once, probably in 2009, but have not seen the game on the table anywhere since then. I'd like to play it one more time at least someday, but anyway, having only played GE once four years ago, I didn't connect the Eclipse ships to Galactic Emperor.

Love to attend this again, but I will be willing to back out if there is some new folks that haven't had the chance to experience this game...
