The Big Beatles Show--play in a uke orchestra!

Pittsburgh Guitars hosts a "Big Beatles Show" every summer at the Rex Theater (South Side). This year they are opening the show with a Ukulele Orchestra and want any willing ukulele players to join the orchestra on stage.

Three different Beatles songs will be played: Yellow Submarine; She Loves You; and I Should've Known Better. (click song title to link to music)

The show is Sunday, July 6th at 6pm. Doors open at 5pm. The ukulele orchestra participants will report backstage around 5:45. Everybody will walk on stage and play and sing the tunes at the start of the show.

There will NOT be a rehearsal for the orchestra - you should simply learn the tunes on your own and come perform.  UPDATE: WE CAN BRING MUSIC AND STANDS!

There is a $5 cover charge for audience AND performers. This donation goes to the Pittsburgh Guitars Student Scholarship fund.

I'm excited to meet all of you at this event! I participated in the uke orchestra last year, and it was tons of fun!

We are looking forward to meeting you too. Since you are a repeat performer, could you describe the process of the "Uke orchestra?" We all have questions than you might answer. Thanks.

Sure, Jack. We at the opening number for the show. Doors open at 5, (show starts at 6) and we'll arrive before 5:45, tune up wherever you can. Everyone playing gets to find a seat in the audience, and the audience will be filled with participants for various songs, so no one will be offended to hear players tuning or see instruments/music/stands out. At 5:45, we'll gather "backstage" (an area to the left of the stage) with our instruments, stands, etc., and then we'll just take the stage as a group. We will arrange ourselves however everyone is comfortable (a semi circle, possibly two rows if needed) and we'll begin playing. We can sing along, just play, or any combination. The audience will likely sing along, too! It's very laid back with a focus on having fun. I really enjoyed it last year, and I got to meet all sorts of uke players. I think everyone will have a great time this year as well.

Sunny says she talked to the event organizer and that music stands are OK. We were thinking of opting out, but with that revelation, our participation is back on. See you at the Rex.

Very very sad to back out of this. I adore the Beatles and have been a beatlemaniac since I was a little girl, but I have a huge rush project for work and little time to do it. Have fun!!
