A Fair in the Park Performance

We will be giving a 15 min performance during A Fair in the Park.  It will be between the headlining acts and we will be performing in front of the stage. Please plan to get there by 11:45 and we will play a little while after Cello Fury finishes around noon.  We can meet up by the Pgh Center of the Arts yellow building entrance to plan our start.

We plan to start our performance flashmob-style by milling about as if we are fairgoers and then slowly meeting up at the front of the stage and break into Five Foot Two.  Some of us should be still walking up as we are playing.  Then we will continue with some more songs to finish out our 15 minutes.

Since we will be standing and playing without music or stands, I've chosen very well known songs that are easy to memorize.  I am also hoping we can get audience members to sing along.

The first four songs and how they are played are in one of our gig songbooks HERE.  I Walk the Line will be played as in the 365--all 3 verses.

Five Foot Two

The Lion Sleeps Tonite

You Are My Sunshine

This Land is Your Land

I Walk the Line

The Round

Glad it worked. Video is too large to upload to the Meet-Up site so YouTube was the best way to share....

      Thanks for sharing this, Anne!

What a fun gathering. We were well appreciated by the audience - and we all really had a great time. Thanks to everybody who participated.

So fun! We were a hit! Thanks for taking part despite the memorizing! We gotta do that again.

Very fun gig! It was great to see all the smiles in the audience and people singing along. It really was one of our best!

It was great because the audience seemed to enjoy it. It's nice to hear that they really did!

So I had three strangers tell me that our performance was super fun; Greg, my husband, said "best ever" and he could hear us even by the face painting booth; AND my friend from Nashville said she is going to get a ukulele ...really Good job everyone, so much fun!!! And it didn't rain.

I plan to wear SCU shirt; ukulele on strap , turned so that it is on my back; then covered with large shirt or light jacket. All I have to do is take off the outer shirt and I'm ready to play.

    September 2, 2014

    • Anne

not a bad idea if you have a big enough outer shirt to close in the front since logo is there

I think we ought to consider wearing our SCU shirts. So many people will be wearing Tshirts at the fair. I don't think ours will stand out until we are all standing together. Then they'll know we are reprsenting the group sponsored by Calliope

re: I Walk the Line. 365 has 5 verses, with the 5th a repeat of the 1st. Are we playing all of them?

    August 28, 2014

    • Sunny P.

Let's try--but I'll bring some cheat sheets for the verses on that one.

I keep looking for the songs on the files page...can't find them...what is the name of the file?

    August 27, 2014

    • Scott M

Never mind, I found it. Too many files!

So, how many verses of "This Land..." are we singing? Lots to memorize!

    August 26, 2014

    • Sunny P.

Oh, sorry! We usually just do the first 3 verses--up to the line that is drawn on songsheet.

      August 26, 2014

  • Jack

    Should we wear SCU shirts?

    August 26, 2014

    • Sunny P.

oops. I just realized that might run counter to our sneaky start...so I change my mind. Unless we do a Superman...

      August 26, 2014

    • Elizabeth G.

no phone booths make a Superman tough!

Except for "The Round" and "Lion," are the songs as they are in the 365 yellow book? How many verses of each?

    August 25, 2014

    • Sunny P.

Thanks for pointing that out! I added a link up above to one of the gig songbooks with the versions and playing notes.
