Tom, I feel your pain!! I also hope to
be back in my 2nd favorite city (duh, Pgh is my first) for 2010 and I
GOT YOUR
BACK. I have to live in Texas, even
though the Steelers section was the biggest, once the Cryboy fans walked in, all
they did was talk smack!!!! I felt like saying hey, at least your game is on TV,
stay home with that behavior!!! Even the Texan fans (yes, the do exist, I
witnessed 3 of them) were on my side, but I was so mad that they had to win, but
I DONT talk smack to any one else, YOUR TEAM IS YOUR TEAM!!! i
HATE SORE LOSERS. You cant win them all, and we bleed black n
gold. I still wear my Steeler Pride and its funny, its like bullseyes for Cowboy
fans, and I get dirty looks, and I just give em a big ole WARD
SMILE!!!!!!
I
am going home either this year, if not definately 2011 as that is my 25th HS
reunion. My 20th was at PNC Park!!! Maybe they will have it at Heinz for the
25th.
I
thought if I am going to be back in Seattle, I will bring up a bunch of trinkets
for door prizes, or Steeler Trivia, Burgh Trivia etc.
My
sister does Pgh sport merchandising for her retail store, so she has like 50 of
everything already!!!
See you on the
Stairway to 7
Steelerfan Nan
Jim and all
Thanks, for the comments. But, Come on, don't question my loyalty
or manhood, etc. (I am from Pittsburgh by the way) The knitting club
was just an example. ANY MEETUP THAT IS PAYING MONEY TO WATCH A
GAME DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE THREATENED OR VERBALLY ABUSED. I don't like
verbal abuse and don't want to get into fights, FADO has an obligation to stop
me, the paying customer, from getting cussed out by a Seahawks fan in front of
his kid, and from protecting my and others physical security.
Particularly when I am sitting at a table, and a guy approaches me and cusses
me out. Management needs to know what is acceptable behaviour, that
is not.
This is not a huge issue. Just we have a Steeler room, Seahawks
fans shouldn't cause trouble. Basic human decency. If they are
starting trouble, threatening people, they should be told to stop, or escorted
out.
As for getting in my head, the viewing experience is not a football game
itself. Go to the Tacoma Steelers bar, you need to actually wear
Steelers stuff to get into the Steelers side of the room. I am not sure
why you would expect anyone to accept verbal abuse. Are you saying that
the Seahawks guys who taunted and threatened the four women Steelers fans
should be excused and welcomed back? Chalk that up to normal football
behavior? Not adults watching a football game.
I am not sure what the mommy and daddy comment meant? Bill Cowher
has nothing to do with it, or Joe Greene. If a Seahawks fan gets in my
face or threatens me (which has happened), should I late hit him, spit on him,
tackle him? Should I pull a Jack Lambert, and tackle him and use
his head to help me get up? No, I don't want get
arrested. I just want to watch the game.
I am a realist, I understand that we are in Seattle, Seahawks fans are
jerks (some of them). Some verbal taunting is not what I am talking
about. That is normal. I am not stupid. I am not talking about
someone who says Go Raiders, when Steelers are playing them. I am
talking about, Sitting in our room (which we are essentially paying for) and
letting Seahawks fans come in and talk trash, guys stare you down,
threaten you, come to your table, accepting this behaviour is
ridiculous. Keep them out, keep the trouble out.
If you Jim want to tackle someone or pull a Bill Cowher, be my guest, see
how Fado likes that, see where you end up.
I have tried talking with Seahawks fans who are doing this, have tried
talking trash back, it just makes it worse. Other Steeler FADO fans
avoid coming to FADO on Seahawks home Sundays, I am not the only one who has
this problem.
Can someone else chime in if you are annoyed with Seahawks fans at
FADO?

Seriously, did you just equate the plight of a Steelers fan
with the plight of a knitting club?
You're going to get verbally
abused because your team is vastly superior, you're going to get taunted and
cussed at because it allows those whose fortunes have not so shined on them
(i.e. Seahawk's fans) to feel competitive - kinda like how little dogs bark
at big dogs, not because they have hope of being the big dog, but rather for
the length of the encounter, they get to feel like a bigger dog. If you are
a Steelers fan, you are, by fiat, always going to be the biggest dog in any
room.
If I were you I would welcome the verbal abuse, the cussing, the
taunting, the jabs, and heck, even the occasional thrown object - take it as
a compliment - no one would feel the need to cuss you out if your team was a
perennial loser.
As a Steelers fan, you represent the glorious
tradition of Jack Lambert, Mean Joe Greene, Hines Ward, Bill Cowher (who,
when mad, would think nothing of headbutting a player while they were still
wearing their helmet) and countless others who would not dream of asking
management to make a special rule to keep the other patrons from teasing
them.
Being a Steelers fan is like being in a knitting club? That
sound you hear is Mel Bount rolling over in his grave.
Plus, I would
suspect that if the Seahawks fans caught wind of the fact that the Steelers
fans were being segregated "in order to cut down on their being teased",
that would do nothing but exponentially increase the amount and severity of
the taunting. I mean, what Seahawks fan (ANY football fan for that matter)
isnt going to be encouraged by the fact that they've gotten in your head
enough that you're essentially asking mommy and daddy to pull the car over
and separate you.
C'mon dude, you're literally asking for
intervention to prevent being smirked at. What kind of Steelers fan are
you?
I respect your right to enjoy the event any way you see fit - as
well as your right to try whatever you feel necessary to make the experience
meet your expectations, but speaking as someone who was born and raised in
Western Pennsylvania, please dont tell them "*we* Steelers fans need our own
section where *we* cant be smirked at" - - if you cant have the fortitude
and the responsibility that comes with being a fan of the greatest football
franchise in the history of the game then - and I say this with all due
respect - I for one wouldnt want to be in that "we".
Peace, fellow
Yinzers.

PS - Yes, I know Mel Blount isnt actually
dead.

I agree with Tom, which is probably why I wont attend any
football meetups unless it is in someone's home next season, JMO. I guess
the older I get, I am falling out of the bar life.

Here is my 2 cents.
I have enjoyed Fado, the management is great. Steelers are
great, watching it with you all is great. However, one
thing that needs to be changed in my opinion is the amount of abuse that
Steeler fans take from Seattle fans.
I understand that we are in Seattle, however, if we are allowed to be
a meetup, and bring money into a bar, we should not (and Fado should not)
allow Seahawks fans to verbally abuse us, take our seats, and make
comments to us every time there is a home game.
Management needs to let the Seahawks fans know that one room is a
Steelers bar, and they need to STAY OUT, quite frankly. There were
at LEAST 4 incidents where Steelers fans were watching their game and
Seahawks fans cussed at me, verbally abused a group of Steelers women, and
always come into the room root for the other team, and smirk and
laugh.
Again, if this behaviour happens, management should let the people
know that this is a steelers meetup, Stay Out. If necessary,
Fado should escort Seahawks fans out who are attemping to start
trouble and intimidate us. Just like if there was a knitting
club meeting at the bar, people who come into the bar should not start
verbally abusing the knitters. The fact that we are Steelers fans is
irrelevant, we can't help it that we beat the Seahawks 4 years ago and
people can't let it go.
If the Steelers Meetup/Managment does not work to address this issue,
I will try the eastside bar, or drive to the Tacoma Steelers
bar.
At the Tacoma Steelers Bar, you need Steelers Clothes to even enter
the Steeler side of the bar, to weed out the dummys who are just trying to
cause trouble.
Thanks
Go Steelers

Hello Steeler Nation Seattle!
We didn't have a year we
expected and we sure had to endure some painful losses, but all in all
we are in better shape today than we were two weeks ago in getting ready
for next year! Finally some coaching changes and probably more to come
along with some personnel changes too! Willie will probably leave the
'Burgh for other pastures, not sure that they'll be greener but he might
want to play on some new grass!
We didn't have as grand a season
form a turnout point of view for all of the games and TJ and I have been
talking alot about what we can do to revitalize the group, grow the
group and keep the excitement level up where we know you all are! We are
after all Steeler fans and there are none better anywhere, and certainly
none better here in the Seattle area!
We have decided to make a
couple of changes and the first I want to announce here today! TJ and I
have spent a fair amount of time talking to existing members, potential
members and a few old members to be sure we are on the right track. It
is clear that we have two basic "sides" to our membership, Eastside and
Westside and there are folks who fall into each group, geographically
(they live in Seattle or Eastside) who refuse to go anywhere other than
to a venue on their side of the water (Lake Washington that is). I
understand this as one who lives on the Eastside. Alternately, we have
ES'ers and WS'ers who will go anywhere to see a game with other Steeler
fans (like me and TJ). Having one venue to serve all, though ideal,
isn't really going to work, so we have searched and found an Eastside
venue and I want to welcome them to the club right now.
Please
join me in welcoming Time Out Sports Bar of Issaquah as our official
Eastside Steeler Nation venue for the[masked] NFL season. Owner Chris
Stoneberg is a native of South Hills and a lifelong Steeler fan. A lot
of the regulars who watch at TO (Time Out) have frequented Fado and
Sideline in Bellevue (we looked at Sideline too), but due to distance
and some conflicts at Sideline they moved their loyalty to TO in
Issaquah!
The venue had six or seven HD flat screen tv's that are
on whatever the Pittsburgh fans want to watch. Chris hasn't got the
kitchen up completely yet, but will have it in full operation in a month
or two tops! It's a very comfortable spot, great people, lots of Steeler
fans and lots of Steeler fans - did I mention lots of Steeler fans! The
address is 185 Front Street in donton Issaquh, doncha know. Just south
of the theater on the west side of the street (signage is tough in
Issaquah so keep a sharp lookpout). We have added Maurice (Mo) Goodwin
(new member) as our official Eastdie organizer and I am sure we'll be
hearing from Mo once the season gets going next year!
Anyhow, we
hope that this will entice a bunch of new Eastside members and we'll
continue to work to make being a Pittsburgh Steeler fan the best fan
experience in Seattle. Stay tuned for more news, let us (Peter, TJ &
Mo) know what you want and we'll do our best to make it
happen!
Happy New Year!
Peter
