Really enjoyed TZolk'in - first time with 4 players, and it makes a difference! Corn can get scarce and difficult to obtain thanks to the difficulty getting on the Palenque wheel and the starting player space takes on new significance. I mistimed things again - I was one short of where I wanted to be on one of the tech tracks, and that cost me 16 VP's - still wouldn't have been enough though. Oh, and I almost forgot: I learned that screwing over other players is known as "doing a John"! ;-)

It's like you can read minds! Wait a minute...that's not how you keep winning all these games, is it..? ;-)

sshhhhh. you revealed enough of my secrets already...

So guys, unfortunately all my games are back home in Greece, bit I have started slowly recreating a collection here! Let me know if you want me to bring any of the following tomorrow:

    -Gosu/Kamakor
    -Yomi
    -Quarriors
    -Smash up

    June 6, 2013

    • Sarantis M.

Tony, we never had the chance to show you yomi after all!!! Will try to remember to bring it on the next meeting, but I would higlhly suggest it if you are thinking to buy it!

      June 10, 2013

    • Tony C.

Thanks Sarantis - look forward to it!

Thank for the great night giys yesterday! I am sorry that I had to leave early, it was a bummer! Thanks Tim for putting the effort to explain Stone Age!

    June 8, 2013

    • Tim G.

My pleasure. As the score shows, I'm better at explaining Stone Age than I am at playing it!

I have that problem all the time with most games!

Great game of terra mystica. Was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to play. Yes there is a lot going on but as long as you are happy to play through the first few turns without worrying too much about perfect play you will have fun and get it by midway through. The different factions look like they offer a lot of depth however the different things going on mean that those with the genetic defect AP will be prone to freeze and probably blue screen crash halfway through.

    June 8, 2013

    • Daniel P.

To be clear there is a Lot going on. However, the general theme is get cubes and money to make bigger buildings and new buildings. If you take in the overall explanation and worry about the extra bits later on it should leave you wanting more (at least I wanted another game straight away).

      June 8, 2013

    • Tony A.

Sounds like it might be the difference between depth and complexity - i.e. it is relatively easy to start playing but your gonna learn, understand more and get better as you go rather than finding it impossible to get through your first turn without spending an hour staring at the rulebook?

Played lots of games and had a great time, curse of the temple was manic and fun, but as I said I am perhaps to self concious to get into that co-op shouty vibe required. Escape from Atlantis was fun ot three meeply but scored a mere 5 points, pah! Greaet night give it 5!!

    June 8, 2013

    • Chris Y.

The sea monsters near that island were exceptionally hungry last night.

      June 8, 2013

  • Tony A.

Well, end tally was - Curse of the Temple, co-op, winner no one - Love Letter, winner Kathie - Libertalia, winner Kathie - Die Speicherstadt, winner Kathie. I'm beginning to suspect she isn't human! (Don't tell her I said that.)

Only disappointment was that I didn't think Libertalia with 6 was that great (or that "piratey") - have played with 2 and it was quite fun but probably not a keeper so I am hoping it is best with 3/4 or it may end up on the trade/ebay pile.

    June 7, 2013

    • Daniel P.

I start to see why Kathie is just a +1 - gives you the option of bringing someone else that won't stomp all over you next time! How was die speicherstadt? It looked interesting when I came and had a nosy.

      June 8, 2013

    • Tony A.

I think if I brought someone else Kathie would definitely stomp all over me! I enjoyed Die Speicherstadt - it's fairly light and has an auction system that's both tactical and fun. It is, I found out since checking the spelling on BGG, a Stefan Feld game which makes perfect sense as it "felt" like Castles of Burgundy - both easygoing, both have themes/art that look a little bland but both are good enough games to enjoy playing in themselves without totally scoffing your brain - good as it allows more table talk and perfect for a tired old man late on a Friday night!

    18 meeples - a new record!

    June 7, 2013

    • Tony C.

Well, I spent all night angering the Gods,so I wasn't bothered about annoying a lowly caretaker, was I?! ;-)

      June 8, 2013

    • Daniel P.

I don't know did you see the caretaker? He scared me.

Hi guys, should be able to make it tonight, would anyone be interested in a game of Terra Mystica?

    June 7, 2013

    • Tony A.

I'd like a game of Tzolkin, Terra Mystica and Chaos (haven't played any of them!) but I believe Simon and Ster are also coming tonight now and will arrive a bit late. Think I'll be playing Escape the Curse of the Temple first up, if anyone is interested, as it only takes ten minutes and, having played Simon's new purchases at the games expo all weekend, it would be a bit rude to tuck into a long game before they get there!

      June 7, 2013

    • Stu W.

I'd be up for terra mystica - played it last year and enjoyed it so would like to give it another bash.

Sadly my girlfriend is sick so I'm on baby duty :-( I was so looking forward to Betrayal too!

Suffering a bit from jetlag so happy to play something not too complicated or something i have played before. Will bring carcassonne (with most expansions), settlers of catan and king of tokyo as these are the only games i have :-( I have not played T'zolkin or Terra but these are sounding very popular so i will leave others to fight over these ;-)

    June 7, 2013

  • Karl W.

Going to see if I can get some toil from work! Will RSVP if I manage to get it :-)

I would be interested in playing terra mystics if you don't mind a slightly later start.

Hi, due to the number of people turning up to this meetup (and now being up to date with the meetup website fees) we are reducing the entry fee from £4.00/ea to £3.00/ea for this meetup. We'll keep an eye on things and may keep it reduced on an ongoing basis, and if we continue to get these kind of numbers on a regular basis we can look to reduce it further...

Regal Disdain? Sounds like a hair colouring product!

Does anybody have any agricola / le havre expansions? Got both games, but would be interested to plays expansions. Here's my game list if anyone particularly wants to play anything off it: http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/spookypeanut?own=1&subtype=boardgame&ff=1
I might bring the Lord of the Rings co-op game at some point, not played it for ages. Anyone like / dislike it?

    June 6, 2013

    • Henry

I didn't even know there were expansions for it! Sounds like a plan, maybe next month...

      June 6, 2013

    • Tony A.

Think there are three or four expansions (as long as it is th Reiner Knizia one we are talking about!) although I don't remember the expansion we have adding anything "huge" to the game - think we have only played it once since we got the expansion though - it was a bring and buy bargain at Salute.

      June 6, 2013

  • Tony A.

I'm thinking of bringing Archipelago along but have not yet got round to a play through to try to get my head round the rules. If people are interested in playing then I will bring it and put the effort into trying to stuff the rules into my tiny brain otherwise I'll leave it til another time. Best thing, of course, would be if someone who has played before wanted a game!

    June 6, 2013

  • Tony C.

Has anyone played "Clash of Cultures"?

    June 5, 2013

    • Chris Y.

Is that the quoted time, or the actual time?

      June 5, 2013

    • Tony C.

I've read that it possibly plays quicker than that, once people have played a couple of times...

      June 5, 2013

  • Tim G.

I have been looking at 2013 game releases. There are planned to be expansions for the following popular club games:
    7 Wonders
    Game of Thrones
    Agricola
    Battlestar Galactica
    Dungeon Petz
    King of Tokyo
    Kingdom Builder
    Pandemic
    Race for the Galaxy
    Suburbia
    Tzolk'in
    Village Inn

Apologies if this is old news to some.

    June 4, 2013

    • Chris Y.

Does anybody actually have Dungeon Petz? I own Dungeon Lords (which is a cracking game, but only four player so I rarely get to play it)

      June 4, 2013

    • Tony C.

Expansion for TZolk'in?!! Great - thanks Tim...

      June 5, 2013

  • Henry

I'll be there. Would love to fit in a couple of games of Betrayal if anyone's up for it. A shorter game so we can get more in :-)

    June 4, 2013

  • Daniel P.

Thought I had posted already. I'm putting in a request for chaos in the old world mark. I feel a need for wanton destruction!

Sorry just realised i'm away on holiday for this week. seems like a long time since i've had a board game session.

    May 29, 2013

  • Tony A.

Kathie will probably come but I can't seem to add the plus one on the iPad. Might have a small package for you Chris - small but expensive. Although the price may decrease every time you help me win a game during the evening ;)

    May 26, 2013

    • Tony A.

      Thanks, John.

      May 27, 2013

    • Chris Y.

Thanks Tony, I'm not sure how I can help you win any games though, as I can't even manage to win them myself! I'll bring Keyflower along, somebody else requested it too. Can't remember who now. Memory like a, er, ooh, what's that shiny thing over there? <wanders off>
