EnjOyed last night! Got walloped by cylons in BSG, beaten by Dan in kemet, sneaky victory and failed to betray the resistance as traitor, a good evening.

Never watched Caprica but it seemed to have same level of reputation as Battlestar Galactica 1980 or whatever the original follow up series was called - i.e I thought it was supposed to be pretty bad but judging by your comments maybe I was wrong.

Based on the judgement that john is any judge of SF, or is that to cutting?

Really enjoyed Trajan - in fact one of the most enjoyable games I've played. Love the 'Mancala' mechanism, and moving the cylinders round the bowls to select the actions. I'll try and set up a session round mine if anyone's interested...

Wow - this is complicated. So, there's Asda Thursday, Valentine's Friday, and we're not sure about Saturday..? So, perhaps the week(end) after....?

      February 9, 2014

    • Tony C.

OK - I've scheduled a meetup, if you consider it possible to schedule something without a date!

It was great to see more new faces at the meeting; if we keep up this rate of growth we will definitely need to find larger premises. Immy illustrated the problems of arriving a few minutes after everyone else when games had filled up and started. Fortunately others arrived and another game could be run.

I still think it's worth starting with a quick games like love letter or zombie dice, breaks the ice and gives people a chance, more newbie friendly than first meeting free. Imh

      IMHO that was.

Can't make it tonight, sadly. Good excuse, though, as I am helping out a friend with a 24-hour board gaming marathon in Colchester throughout the night. Have fun.

    February 7, 2014

    • Tony A.

Ooh, sounds fun. Hope you enjoy it David, see you at Asda.

      February 7, 2014

    • Paul H.

David you'll have to give us a list of games played?

      February 8, 2014

  • john

    Note to Mark:

13 meeples attended, 2 first timers, 10 paid £2.00, the other tony (top cat) forgot his lunch money this week (I think there's a bit of a tony trend starting here), Daniel and Tim both paid £2.00 extra for missing previously. So that's £24 collected and I think everyone's now up to date except TC who owes £2.00

Really cross!!! I was hoping raging sore throat and cold would have gone by now but sadly I was wrong!! I'd risk coming but don't want to pass any illness on to others!! I shall, however, still be coming to next thursday at Asda! Hope you all have a super evening.

bah, young people today - don't know they're born!

      February 7, 2014

    • john

But if you are coming, and are going to be late, post here to let us know roughly what time, or you'll end up playing solitaire!

Get there early if you want a chair!

    February 7, 2014

    • john

      February 7, 2014

    • Tony A.

Can someone let me know what the A602 road into stevenage from Hertford is like. I heard a rumour there are road closures due to rain/flooding etc.?

    February 7, 2014

My wife just sent me this - said loads of people struggled to get into work today: http://www.hertsdirec...

I am hoping it should have eased off by 6.30pm

      February 7, 2014

  • john

14 people... Tony, you may yet get to break open your new BSG... but definitely bring the resistance in case we all finish early...

    February 6, 2014

  • Trish C.

I have no suggestions, nor indeed any games as yet, however I would make a plea for patience for a 'newbie' and if any 'hard' games are going to be played I could always watch!!! Wouldn't want to spoil the evening for others... And at least then I'd be better prepared for next time!!!

Hi Trish. I remember when I first came along, not knowing any games whatsoever...and John and Dan showed me Stone Age. If you like, I can bring Stone Age (really good game - easy to learn), and Fresco, and Kingsburg (and others) - all easy games to tech and play.

      February 6, 2014

    • Trish C.

Hi Tony and thanks! Sounds good to me ... And I know after last time it will all be good fun so I'm really looking forward to it!!

Anyone played Robinson Crusoe: Cursed island yet? Got it for Christmas looks quite good?

    February 3, 2014

    • Tony A.

Hey! You're in Stevenage Boardgame Club - just how trendy do you need? :-)

      February 4, 2014

    • Mark H.

have read some reviews and sounds very good in a "oh god we are all gonna die" kind of way

      February 5, 2014

  • Tony C.

Hoping I might be able to make this one. Happy to try anything as usual. I can bring Trajan, Fresco, Stone Age, Kingsburg....loads of games! :-)

    February 4, 2014

    • Tony C.

Cheers Tony - that'd be good. Would still also like to see Suburbia, if anyone has it...too many games, not enough time! Want to play Dominant Species again - really enjoyed the couple of games I've had of that, but probably too long for Pin Green session....

I'd like to have a look at Concordia. But, alas, I can't make it this time.

was going to bring along smallworld, possibly an expansion to it, as have never played it with more than three players, but it seems like it would be very good with more.

I'm in the same boat Allan - my partner, Kathie, never commits til late in the day. If you can "plus one" when you know it just helps John - he needs a list cos he's the one who puts the frighteners on people for the cash (though not on their first visit) - and helps all of us to sort out who plays what so nobody gets left out (if anyone arrives a bit late, for instance). Don't think Kathie is coming to this one but you (by which I mean I) never know.

      February 4, 2014

    • john

yes, like that one time we'd all started playing and had no spaces left, then someone who we weren't expecting turned up late....

      February 4, 2014

  • Paul H.

    any game suggstions? Mage Knight?

    January 30, 2014

    • john

It's a nightmare to learn. You really have to sit down for a few days to figure it out. Played it at one time but remember nothing about the rules now...

      January 31, 2014

    • Tony A.

If you want to have a go, Paul, I'm happy to lend it to you. There is a base scenario to play through that introduces the rules and I'd give at least a couple of turns of that a play through solo if you want to learn it. It is the most thinky/rules heavy game I own by a country mile so I recommend a couple of turns solo before trying to play it for "real". It is an excellent game when you get your head round it but pretty long and pretty painful if, say, you are playing with 4 and everyone learning as they go. If you like it I'll have a game with you sometime cos I think I've only managed to play it 3 and 1/2 times!

Sigh of great relief!!! Thanks folks!!
