BattleStar Galactica Episode III - The Cylons Strike Back! (6 Players max)

Right, let's see if we can't get one of these Sunday events kicked off - As a Cylon seeking revenge for our defeat at Dans house, I suggest a 6 player game of BattleStar Galactica.  BSG has a limit of 6 players, but of course we still have the room booked so people can still turn up and play other stuff.  Newbies and Veterans welcome.

I'm giving us a week and a bit to see if there's any interest, if there isn't any I'll cancel it - we really need 5 or 6 to make a decent game of it.

Usual Sunday blurb follows...

New members please note the Sunday sessions are rarely attended!  But the room is here to use if needed, so if you can convince a few other people to turn up then you can have your own quiet little games afternoon.

To get in you need to go to side entrance - as shown below.  There is security door so you'll need to buzz to get in.  Everyone must sign the visitor book which is in front of you as you enter.   To get to room turn right and follow corridor around "training room 1" is on the right just after toilets.

Asda carpark is £2.00 which is refunded if you make a purchase in store.  Not sure if they still charge this on Sundays?

An uneventful and fully human first half, followed by the 2nd half with Paul being revealed as a cylon sympathiser (boo, hiss) while the ever treacherous Tony was the first cylon to reveal himself, and Allan revealing very late in the game that he was the remaining cylon. I, of course, was a human. But alas we loss to the combined might of the cylon onslaught...

Just a couple of points - I (very deliberately after last time!) didn't shuffle the deck and there was a special ability to lower the value needed to ship someone (a traitorous president perhaps) off to the brig. I dunno for sure how you could have got Penny out of the brig but I also tried to help in the vote just cos I felt bad for her (and I wasn't sure who was the second Cylon at that point). But no matter what, you humans were pretty much done for - it was the Super Crisis card I had that moved you two back on the jump track that was the absolutely final nail in the coffin!

Oh yeah, it was President Cylon who shuffled the deck! Clearly the subconscious act of a well primed sleeper agent. ;-)

Is there any appetite for another BSG themed Sunday session? (I certainly have an appetite for more of those key lime pie flavour biscuits!)

Interesting that both Guyas and boomer - the two characters that each have an extra 'might be a cylon' card and therefore statistically most likely to be a cylon were both human... and all the cylons were the few main characters in the film that *weren't* cylons...

might turn up just to see how the game is played!! Or is that just 'odd'??

    March 2, 2014

    • Tony A.

Nope, I watch "playthroughs" on the web of games I haven't played to learn the rules or see if I will like it - at least you'll get some conversation of dubious quality and the remote possibility of a cuppa!

      March 2, 2014

    • john

very very remote possibility on a sunday! bring some teabags if you want tea...

Oooh, wondered why I hadn't had the usual deluge of Meetup emails - DoS attack! Somebody clearly doesn't want our mission to be a success......

Just played 5 player bsg with the new caprica expansion - EPIC FAIL - "made up dave" read the rules wrong and we ended up with 3 cylons and 2 humans!

Was he a Cylon, perchance? Must have been some tough moments when trying to figure out who was putting the right cards into the skill checks. I know it's you, you're the human! :-)

Some cool bits in the expansion though - new caprica, Pegasus, new characters, cylon leader characters!

Tony, did you say you were playing this one, or just 'popping by' for an hour or so? If you're not playing we need to attract another player that actually owns the game... ;-)

And remember if anyone brings a toaster (no matter how tiny) it is probably because toasters get lonely by themselves... just sayin'

      February 26, 2014

    • Tony A.

Ahh, the toaster has stayed with Dan. Found its soulmate. ;-)

For those new to the BSG board game here is a quick overview of the important bits: BSG is a co-operative game with traitors, this means everyone plays together as a team to achieve victory - except the traitors who will pretend to be good guys but will secretly be trying to sabotage the mission. At some point they will reveal themselves as traitors and will actively work against the team.

oh right, I forgot, there may also be a collaborator who is a human that works with the Cylons but can't do all the cool cylon things. Personally I think that it's a bit lame, the game would work perfectly well without it. I pity the fool that gets that card, as Mr T would say.

There is an official no sympathiser variant available for download from FFG website. You should be able to stream it directly to your wireless optical cortex interface John.

ps. a normal game lasts 3-4 hours, though if things go badly for the humans it can all be over in the first hour...

***ok, we're officially up to 6 people now so BSG is full ***

The room is booked for the whole club however so people can still turn up and play other games. (though this is the most people we've ever managed to get together on a Sunday, which seems to be a wildly unpopular day, so just make sure some other people are coming)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
