Monthly Meeting @ Asda Stevenage

This is our regular meeting at Asda Stevenage, on the 3rd Thursday of every month.  A wide selection of other peoples board games are usually available to play, but feel free to bring some of your own.

FOR NEW MEMBERS THE FIRST MEETING IS FREE.

For the rest of us a £2 donation requested which goes towards meetup.com registration fees.

To get in you need to go to side entrance - as shown below. There is security door so you'll need to buzz to get in.  The door is usually locked these days (they probably noticed all these beardy people wandering in every month or so), so now you need to stand there pressing the button.  Of course, no-one ever replies to the buzzer, but the smokers will see you standing there pressing the buzzer and will let you in (it's never failed so far!)

Everyone must sign the visitor book which is in front of you as you enter.  To get to room turn right and follow corridor around "training room 1" is on the right just after toilets.

Facilities:  The room is spacious and air conditioned / heated, and hot water is available if you want to bring your own cup/teabags etc.

Carpark is £2.00 which is refunded if you make a purchase in store.  We have been told by the Asda contact that attendant finishes at 6pm so parking after that don't worry, but take that at your own risk and all that (it's been ok so far...)

A fun game. I just about sneaked in a betrayer victory but was pretty sure i would have been exiled next round. Food was a big problem which helped me a lot despite tony's heroic hunter gathering.

Highlights of the evening were rod dying of a heart attack, allowing paul to demonstrate his characters' true altruistic natures and mall santa dying of frostbite.

From now on i am keeping a pack of cookies in the game box for whenever i am dealt a betrayer card...

Ah but if you keep them for when you have the betrayer card then we'll know you're the betrayer... so you'd need to break out the cookies everytime you played...

What do we think of 6 player DoW then? We seemed to do very well on zombies (ie. keeping the numbers down, we never looked in any danger of being overrun), but we got hammered on the resources (not helped by getting like 4 food crisis cards in a row). On top of that we need 6 food for every crisis rather than the normal 4-5, and there were obviously more of us to feed so more food was required each round. Was that just the way that particular game went or was it skewed as a result of too many players?

Yeah, I think we were enjoying the situation but we didn't organise our efforts that well. Most of the table talk was dumb stuff or smack talk rather than attempting to sort an approach to achieving the objective or averting crises. I think 6 is perfectly reasonable in terms of the game mechanics (it should've even helped us in depleting the location decks) although food does become a bigger issue generally which didn't help with the run of food crises we had. I think it does affect the pacing of the game, however, and this might be one reason why we didn't organise. Don't know about everyone else but I didn't feel quite as engaged/involved in everything as I did in my previous game. It was still great fun, though. I think it is probably the most pure fun game I own!

Oh, and grats to Dan! He poisoned our water supply with modified Zombie virus to make us all his demi-zombie slaves. Then he won the game as the betrayer too.......

Wold there be a space still for me on the table for DOW? I should make it back in time from a work trip to be able to join you...can confirm tomorrow! Rather late notice, so if the spaces are taken for DOW no worries, I will see you early November:)

    • john

Well if you're coming DP you can bring your copy and we can have two 3 player games of Dow... 8-)

      October 14

    • Tony A.

Shh. Don't mention the existence of another copy of Dow - I only ducked the dinner by claiming that I had to bring my copy along!
