  • So... It's the New Year (Or it will be) and I'm Organising another Ware event!
The dates have again fallen a little wild, in part to the Christmas / New Year holidays and also due to a December house move - who says I don't have enough on?

As always the next Ware Meetup is to be held at its regular venue location, the John Gilpin Pub! It would great if we could start the new year by having a SBGC Meetup with as many of our members coming along for a game (or two).

Past meetup attendees have left great feedback with regards to this venue, with our last meetup having 12 people attend - the most yet!

As always the games will kick off from 5pm, meaning that we have close to 6 hours to get either a mix of shorter games in or a couple of longer perhaps more thematic games?

Again for those SBGC members who have not yet experienced the delights of the John Gilpin in Ware - may I draw your attention to these points!
It's very easy (and quick) to get to from Stevenage and there's ample car parking.
The pub is actually fairly spacious - which means where we play games is generally away from the pubs other Sunday afternoon patrons.
Hot food can be ordered / bought up until 7pm (might be worth checking upon arrival).
Finally there are a selection of beverages available to purchase at the bar, including alcoholic drinks if you are so inclined ;-)

There will be a charge of £2 at this event - which will go towards the running costs of the Stevenage Boardgaming Club. As always please RSVP if you are coming or not! This is because I and ultimately the venue need to be aware of how many board gamers are attending. Thank you for the number of RSVP's at the last event - it definately helped.

So, get your names down and your game requests in, perhaps someone will bring that game you've been itching to play!

Look forward to seeing you there, playing a game with a refreshing drink ;-)

    Shame, but fair enough.
Not sure what my schedule is like new year but if not too heavy I might try and arrange something before end of January.
(John Gilpin or a pub in Stevenage area if find accommodating one).

Sorry i'm cancelling this event because I'm unable to host on the day! Equally better to cancel before too many people commit to coming - rather than leaving it til the last minute - just trying to give you guys the heads up!

I still prefer the original Dune movie to anything that's come since (tv wise) - I got through a fair number of the books too (which just got weird - Maud'Dibs son covering himself in baby worms and then bouncing around the deserts of arrakis - different!

I'm getting distracted, Rex... yes... bring Rex along - always good to have a selection of games available to play ;-)

Bring Netrunner along by all means as well - although it's only for two players if memory serves correct? Might be a good game for any late-comers to the event - allso, please bring it so that we don't have an insufferable Mark (or any other SBGC member)

8 RSVP's so far - c'mon SBGC members - this is a while off so all the better to get in the diaries now!

Yes I like the Lynch film as well. Reading rules, Rex plays pretty much identical to Dune. Although theme doesn't fit as well as Dune ("influence" appears in regions instead of spice. Bene Gesseit powers go to random turtle dudes and not so clear *why* they can do these things. ) still once playing don't matter much guess.

For future reference I will also be bringing netrunner to any and all events as it is frigging awesome and One of you lot better play with me or i will keep going on and on about it quite insufferably :)

I've just got 2nd hand copy of Rex - which is the classic Dune game re- skinned into twilight Imperium. That's probably quite long one, especially first time.
Quick question - anyone have chaos in old world? I'd like to try that very much, and I have expansion but not actual game.

So... Eclipse has had a few outings at this event - taking the entire session - having 6 hours available has definite advantages!

Merchants and Marauders was played at the last event - this is a 4 player game but managed to squeeze in 1 extra player & to be fair it played both fluidly and quickly.

Since we will have 6 hours available for this event - does anyone have 1 of those longer games that wouldn't get brought out at Pin Green?
(Dreadfleet perhaps Mark - you've seen the space available)

Appreciate that this is literally months away but shall we get some ideas / plans going!

BTW- zombie dice was brought along at the last event and we had 7-8 members playing immediately (whilst waiting for other members to arrive).

I feel it safe to say the rules were simple and easy to understand - I went to the bar after explaining the rules and ordered a drink -, when I came back the game was up and running without further input required.

    Anyone have similar games?

So the question... to theme or not to theme?
