Topics TBD by Participants at the Event

Interested in topics such as philosophy, history, psychology, political science, technology, science, etc.? We get together for a couple of hours or so over dinner to discuss topics that the group decides on.

As your host, I reserve a restaurant in Walnut Creek that is affordable, not too noisy (relatively speaking) and has enough room to accommodate an 8 - 10 person table.

Since I make dinner reservations based on the number of RSVPs, please make sure that you can attend before signing up for this meetup.

The format of each dinner is in large part open-ended. Once everyone has been seated and we've ordered dinner, we start discussing topics based on a topics list that has been formulated before the meetup and / or based on what the group decides to discuss on the fly.

NOTE: At Dragon 2000, we order family style. Here's a link to the restaurant's menu: http://www.dragon2k.com/mainmenu.html. The restaurant doesn't accommodate separate checks for the number of people we have, so please bring cash.

We look forward to meeting you!

P.S.

Please refer to our attendance policy prior to signing up.

An unresolved question last night was whether the Middle Class will ever rise in revolt. The answer is yes! The catalyst shocking us out of our complacency will be a doubling of rates for cable TV & Internet service.

The doubling of home cable rates will result from the merger of Comcast and AT&T approved by the vote of the new 2014 Republican Senate overturning President Obama’s veto. The rate increase will be justified by the need to pay off the huge corporate debt incurred to finance the acquisition costs of the cable mega-merger. Our revolt will be facilitated by a new mobile App for Revolution Meetups called "Barricades".

The mobile App will divide the revolution into 15 minute segments followed by commercial breaks:
sponsors catering to the mob will pitch flak vests, protective helmets, modular barricades and digital graffiti.
sponsors for the Fascist elite will pitch gated communities surrounded by moats, offshore banking and 3rd world mercenary services like “Rent A Thug”.

Effervescent discussion with good food in a casual, cloistered setting at the end of a long week = just what the Dr ordered!

That is a great suggestion Larry! It was also a very close vote so that could be an element of the discussion. How can such a close vote reverse 40 years of campaign limits?

    Ciao,

Topic Suggestion: In view of today's decision by the US Supreme Court eliminating aggregate limits on a (rich) person's campaign contributions, we could discuss the corrosive impact of the dominance of money on American democracy — including the invasion of local politics by out-of-state money.
