Book club - The Clean Coder chapter 1-3

The book club will start read The Clean Coder: A Code of Conduct for Professional Programmers. You can find more info and find reviews at Amazon.

Read the first three chapters prior to this meeting.

Chapter 1. Professionalism
Chapter 2. Saying No
Chapter 3. Saying Yes

I think it will be fun and educating if we can bring real-world examples on the main ideas from those chapters. But if you can't that's cool too. If you want to you can bring your reading notes. When we meet we will try to find the main take aways from the chapters, discuss and share our thoughts. This is about learning and having fun!

The book can be bought from Adlibris or Bokus for 209 kr.

Adlibris (current delivery 1-2 days)
Bokus (current delivery 5-8 days)

I liked the meetup. It was well organized and we had interesting discussions. It would be nice to know beforehand which book we will be reading next.

It was fantastic to have role-playing games (saying No), listen about real life scenarios told by other participants related with the book, great to repeat the contents of the book (I realized there were fragments I had ommited from my memory), etc. Really good initiative Frej. Looking forward to continue the experience!

I love the idea and have been looking for a book club for a while. Started reading when I saw this, but am now at chapter 12. At what pace are we reading? 3 chapters/2 weeks, i.e. 10 weeks for the book? Anyone up for a new book every 2 weeks instead?

    August 14, 2013

    • Dan P.

How often do you plan to have the physical meetings? Is that also something we decide on Thursday? :-)

      August 18, 2013

    • Frej C.

Dan: On the pre-book club meetup most people wanted 2 weeks in between. But since this is the first time we're doing this we'll adjust the format to what works and people wants. Let's discuss this more on Thursday. We can call it the "Agile book club" or something. :)

    Cheers!
In our first meeting, I strongly recommended Sandro Mancusos book on Software Craftsmanship, and he decided to hand us some discount codes as well as a free version code. Using awesome science, I will raffle the free version to the people attending this event.

The discount codes will also be randomised among the people signed up to this event. For full disclosure, I will use random.org for this.

Looking forward to this. Just got the Kindle version, and the first few chapters were a very nice read.

Is it okay to be really introvert and a bit uncomfortable around strangers? =)

    August 8, 2013

    • Olivia N.

Yes, it is ok. My advice is not to think about it too much. Just think that we are same as u with similar fears and worries. That should help.
