Join us for an entertaining evening at the Craftsmanship Cinema!

We look at interesting craftsmanship related talks given across the globe at different conferences and then hold group discussions related to what we have seen and share experiences.

We start the video at 18.15.

For this event: Layers Considered Harmful

Christian Horsdal : This is a slightly provocative talk where I -based on a few examples I suspect many will recognize - argue that we use layers way to much. I argue that layers have become our default abstraction; the one hammer that makes everything look like a nail. I investigate how this happened and why it wasn't the original intention of layers. I finish off by pointing to alternative approaches based on outside-in TDD, vertical slicing and just-in-time abstractions.

Sorry. Some VERY personal stuff going on here.
I told Jesper to please check the following with the group.

    1. Who would feel comfortable taking on the next Language Exchange?

    2. Would people be interested in another Scriptastic session? If so, I have some fun ideas.

    3. Would people like to try an Editor Mastery session? If so, I have some ideas and some passion. The idea is that everyone who knows some Emacs sit together and show each other and talk about common problems and such. They share and teach, learn and leave with some pretty new awesome knowledge.

I'd go to both a scriptastic and an Emacs session!

I mentioned some work Sandro Mancuso has been doing that fits parts of the discussion we had today.

And the improved version (shown at I T.A.K.E. Unconference): http://www.slideshare.net/sandromancuso/crafted-design-itake-2014

    Enjoy!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
