R Hackathon: A whole day of hacking, package building, visualization and more

On Saturday, November 23 the Stockholm R User Group (SRUG) in cooperation with the Swedsh Pensions Agency invites you to participate at a one-day R hackathon in Stockholm. A hackathon is a great place to meet similarly-minded people with a passion for R coding and development.

During the day a number of talks and workshops will be held on different topics. There will also be a Hacking Space available for free hacking, talking and socializing. If you wish to arrange an impromptu workshop with fellow participants, a number of smaller workshop rooms will be available for that purpose as well.

During the day lectures and workshops will be held on the following topics:

- Building your own package in R
- Working with data visualization in R
- Version management and social coding in RStudio with Git and Github

The schedule might be subject to change and will be completed as time draws nearer the event date.

Participation and registration
Participation is free. You are welcome to come and leave as you see fit during the day. Registration is required in advance by sending an email to [masked].

You are free to use the day for any kind of hacking you like. But if you are interested in data analysis, you might be interested to hear that the Swedish Pensions Agency will be providing a number of data sets with real-world data that have hitherto not been thoroughly analysed. If you want to feel like a data pioneer or are simply interested in crunching big data sets in search of interesting results this might be for you!

General info
Venue: Pensionsmyndigheten, Hornsgatan 168, Stockholm (Subway station: Hornstull)
Time: Saturday, November 23, 10am - 6pm
Food and drinks: There are coffee machines on site, and several nearby restaurants offer reasonably priced lunch menus. We offer the possibility to pre-order lunch catering (a menu will be posted as the event draws nearer). You can also bring your own food if you wish since there are several microwave ovens available.

Here you can find the web app I showed you:
If you give me some instruction I can also upload the code (UI.R and server.R) to the "Hackathon_2013" repository, since I didn't have time to take a deeper look to gethub ;)

Hi Sida, SthlmR is actually a GitHub *page*, not a *repository*. Perhaps you mean that you want access to the "Hackathon_2013" repository? In that case, I've added you to the list of collaborators, so you're now free to commit away!

Actually, what I did was to add you to the "Members" list of the SthlmR page, so if you should require access to any other repositories that belong to the SthlmR page, simply contact me or any of the owners of the respective repository on GitHub and you will [in most cases] be granted push/pull access there as well!

    To all participants:

Please note that in order to participate at the event you must submit your full name. This is due to security regulations stating that every participant must be registered on beforehand.

All the attendants who have registered their full name on will be entered into this list. However, if you are using a nickname, or only your initial (e.g. "L Hansson", "randomuser" and similar) you must register by sending me an email containing your full name (first and family names) at [masked]. This must be done AT THE LATEST BY THURSDAY, i.e. tomorrow.

Sorry about the fuss, but I hope that you will find the time to register. We're looking forward to seeing you all at the event on Saturday!

    Dear participants,

More information about the specifik details of the event will be posted as the event draws nearer. We have not yet decided on exactly when during the day the seminar on package building and visualizaton will be held, but we'll make sure to post all updates here as soon as possible.

Please feel free to contact us or post a message here if you have any questions about the event - and don't forget to invite your friends and colleagues who might also be interested about developing their hacking skills in R!
