Stockton Asparagus Festival Booth (Fri-Sun)

The Stockton Asparagus Festival is an annual event held in Downtown Stockton that encompasses the waterfront, Weber Point, and more.

The festival attracts over 100,000 people from the greater area during its three days, from 10am - 7 pm. Live entertainment, games and contests, and an Asparagus Alley are just some of the fun and exciting things happening over the weekend.

About Our Tent

The purpose of our tent will be to:

• provide a community for area atheists and freethinkers

• promote the social issues that concern us including the rights of women, children, and the LGBT community

Located in our Tent:

• an email sign-up sheet

• candy

• drinks and snacks (for volunteers)

We will be distributing:

• upcoming event flyers

• bookmarks with recommended reading

• non-tracts that discuss social issues

• Camp Quest brochures

Volunteering

If you can attend the tent, even if only for an hour, please RSVP. It would be great to have 6-8 people at all times during the day so that everyone can take breaks and enjoy the festival.

Hours to volunteer are 9:30 AM - 7:15 PM, all three days.

We ask that everyone wear a shirt that is pro-atheism, but not offensive to those of other worldviews. For those who have ordered SAAF shirts ($20), they will be waiting for you upon arrival. Others may buy a shirt while supplies last.

Big thanks to everyone who came by our booth, especially those who volunteered! We gave away so many buttons and candy, and even took two full sheets of email addresses.

Lots of people were happy to see us -- a few not so happy. :P

    Intriguing interactions with the public.

Working at the booth was a blast. I enjoyed great conversation with like-minded folks and people-watching, especially found amusing the reactions to the COR banner when they glanced at it. Look forward to next year! = : ^ )

Well that was a bummer- showed up just in time for the plug to get pulled... Hopefully I will be able to make it in Saturday or Sunday, but today was my only free-and-clear window... Grrrr.

    April 25, 2014

    • David D.

Yeah sorry, Andy! They officially started kicking everyone out about 15 minutes after we left.

Thanks for coming though. I'll buy you a beer next time I see you.

So our first day was a wet success. Only a trickle of people were there due to the weather, but we had a few nice conversations and gave out quite a few buttons.

As always, we're next to the wonderful people of Farm Fresh to You, and both of them were interested in our Sacramento group.

We're looking forward to Saturday and Sunday with better weather and more people.

Hi! Can I get a large SAAF shirt for Sunday? Thanks!

So I've looked around and can't seem to find the SAAF shirts. I'll keep looking though.

Looks like I am buying a shirt. Not much into using my body as billboard.

It's no big deal, sometimes the tongue in the cheek goes full epileptic.

It's supposed to rain to-morrow. Do we have a "Plan B" or does the Festival organizers have such a contingency plan? BTW, I'm still coming, rain or no rain. = : ^ /

Our booth has cover, so unless it's a typhoon we'll be there as planned. :) I'll post on here in the morning if there's any changes.

I would love to volunteer my time to help attend the tent. I have a pretty flexible schedule. I can attend Friday and Saturday between any of the available times, up to and beyond 4 hours.

    April 14, 2014

    • David D.

That's great, Ray, thanks! Since you're flexible, let's wait and see what others might sign up for and then fit you in where we're running thin.

Just a reminder that this is a 3-day event, though certainly you're not expected to be there all three days.

Please RSVP and you'll be asked what days/times you can attend and be at our table.

Yes, the Jesus Dino shirt is cool, but the Festival isn't the right place for that. I think I should be able to answer provocative questions without provoking folks. Does that make sense?

    1 · April 5, 2014

    • David D.

Totally! It'll be fun. Always is.

this would be my first time attending i would like to expeirence it with others of my similar interest

It will be great to have you join us, Manuel. You mentioned coming on Sunday. Can you give me an approximation as to what time?

      April 5, 2014

  • Tim J. S.

I thought about wearing my t-shirt depicting Jesus riding a dinosaur but...nah, too much in-your-face blasphemy so I'll wear a simple shirt that says "atheist" is that OK?

    1 · March 27, 2014

    • David D.

Either of those are great, Tim! I do love the Jesus/Dino shirt.
